  1. You're very welcome John, I always like to help if I can. I have to say that I can't take any credit for the instructions on how to get the lamp shades off, that came from someone on the American forum I think, but I'm afraid I don't know who.
  2. It may just be as simple as bending the contacts/copper strip a bit - get in there and experiment with it
  3. No worries Frank, always like to help if I can. One other thing worth mentioning but, of course, it comes down to your own personal choice and that is that you don't really need to take it to a Lexus specialist. Admittedly, Lexus make luxury cars, but they are just cars. Any good mechanic/garage should be able to deal with a problem like this.
  4. I know the OP asked for "a quick fix" and I know that having the codes read will point him in the right direction of that but it sounds like water has gotten all over the place, maybe from pressure washing the engine bay rather than sponging down, so my advice to the OP is, don't be so blinkered and only look at the connectors that are involved with the OBD system. There really is no shortcut for this sort of thing, assume that ALL connectors are water damaged and even if they aren't causing problems now, they may well do in the future - and I speak as a time-served, fully qualified electrician in the early years of my career, the vast majority of which has been spent as a telephone engineer (cable jointer) on BT, and now self-employed computer technician, all in the field of maintenance; in other words, someone who's been around connectors of one sort or another, in all sorts of harsh environments, all my life.
  5. These are the ones I bought and they work a treat, but you do need to remove the shrouds in the light fitting for best results. Removing_bulb_cover_from_reverseing__light.pdf
  6. The ones I've seen have always been in the bottom right corner. I don't know if that's correct or not but would say so because of not seeing them positioned anywhere else. Have a look here for some info.
  7. Complete guess but I'd say that the short answer is no, no quick fix. I'd say you've got water in the electrics somewhere so you need to wait for it to dry out and pray that no permanent damage has been done. The only other thing I'd suggest is to get some electrical contact cleaner and spray that into all the connections that you managed to get wet. WD40 do a special contact cleaner but DON'T use standard WD40 because this leaves an oily residue that goes gooey and attracts dirt. I repair computers for a living and people sometimes bring me their laptops after spilling drinks on the keyboard. It's not so much that the liquid conducts electricity and causes short circuits, more the impurities and minerals that leave behind corrosive substances when they dry out, so a good cleaning with contact cleaner is essential to get rid of that.
  8. No answer for you I'm afraid Peter, just an observation really - I've never understood why cars with aircon and/or climate control have a sunroof. Ok, I admit that when you're buying a car you want everything to work as it should and that includes the sunroof but, as long as it doesn't leak, I'd be happy. All three cars I've owned in the last 12 or 13 years have had a sunroof but I've never had any of them open at any time at all, preferring to rely on the aircon/climate control instead. Hope someone can answer your queries my friend, good luck in your quest.
  9. Leave it in for the next owner, it's only about £15 for a new hard-wire kit, which isn't much when you're spending thousands on a change of car anyway - just not worth the hassle of getting it out.
  10. If they're xenons, there's a very good chance it'll be the bulb itself on its way out. It could be the ballast but it's more likely to be the bulb. If it is the bulb then I'd change the other one too because if they're both the same age then the other one is likely to fail soon and also xenons 'colour shift' with age. I remember reading that if you put in, for example, 4300K bulbs, five years later they would look more like 6000K so your new one will look different to the old one if you don't change it at the same time.
  11. Absolutely, yes. This guy on eBay will supply a brand new, empty case and will cut the blade from a photograph of your existing key - you just move your existing module into it.
  12. Hello and welcome to the forum. I've got a 2005 RX300 and I didn't even know it had such a facility because I lock the doors as soon as I'm in anyway. I can't really answer your question but I repair computers for a living and a reboot solves a good 70% of all problems, so try disconnecting the battery for about five minutes to allow all systems to reset and see if that helps.
  13. I know I'm tempting fate when I say this but in over 40 years of driving, I've only ever had two punctures, three at the very most, and all more than 20 years ago. The last 11 or so years have been without a spare of any kind because my LPG tank lives in the spare wheel well. 'Space Saver' tyres are an oxymoron because they don't save any space when you have to put them in the luggage compartment. A can of Holts Tyreweld and a compressor can and will handle most eventualities, the breakdown people will deal with the ones they can't.
  14. Not being nasty about it but don't you think you should treat it (a) a bit more seriously and (b) a bit more urgently? You seem to be saying that you think it's alright to go around dazzling other people and you don't care if they have an accident while they're temporarily blinded by your bright lights? Just a couple of seconds while their eyes adjust back to normal could make all the difference to someone's life and not in a good way.
  15. Stand-alone unit every time. I have a TomTom Live 1005 placed in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen - very unobtrusive but yet easy to see. I only use the inbuilt nav system as a sort of 'rolling screensaver' because it's very clunky and counter-intuitive to use. Ok, I know it's old and maybe newer ones are better, but I've yet to hear or see a car system that's as easy to use, as responsive and as cheap when purchasing up-to-date maps, as a stand-alone. Someone has taken the time and trouble to collate all the LPG filling stations in the country and one simple download will get it in the correct format for use in TomToms, Garmins or almost any other flavour of stand-alone sat nav, to use as POIs. Is there such a thing for the Lexus in-built system (serious question, not trying to be flippant, I honestly don't know)? Or every Asda/Tesco or other supermarket? There are POI files for almost anything you could want ( every Toby Carvery if you're that way inclined, or every B&Q for instance) that can be downloaded and used (free of charge) in any sat nav but will they work on factory-fitted systems? And we haven't even mentioned cost. A full year of map updates (four per year IIRC) for my TomTom, covering the whole of Europe including the UK, is about £35-£40, as opposed to over £100 for an inbuilt update.
  16. I doubt that very much - it's all about deterrent, which is why I always use a physical crook lock device on my steering wheel and why my house has a burglar alarm installed. The bad guys of this world want an easy 'in, out, gone' life so they see the deterrents and move on to an easier job somewhere else. If they really, REALLY do want that specific car and break in to get the fob, that's when you hand it over and think to yourself 'well, it's just a lump of metal, I'll ring the insurance people tomorrow.'
  17. Don't get me wrong, I'm no hero and if anyone threatened my wife or myself I'd basically throw the keys at them and just say take it. My main point is to ask, do we REALLY need keyless entry? Have we really got to the point where pressing a button is just too difficult or awkward for us to do? Having a key/fob constantly transmitting a signal, just so that we don't have to press a button, insert key and turn it - especially when said signal seems to be an open invitation for the car to be stolen easily - just seems pointless technology to me and something that was added to the cars just because it could be done, rather than an actual need for it.
  18. Ah, right. Maybe we've got too lazy for our own good if the price of not pressing a button is easy theft of the car
  19. Why are keys 'active' all the time? Surely it should only transmit a signal when a button on the key is pressed?
  20. Put the phrase "sinergex purecharge 10" (without the quotes) into Google and the first link returned is to a user manual in pdf form.
  21. No idea on size or if they'll fit but just remember that Lexus/Toyota don't make brakes/batteries/tyres/exhausts or such things, they just buy in from those who do make them, add a markup and sell them on, so you should be able to find what you want 'out there' as opposed to main dealers.
  22. Never seen anything like that - can you take a photo for us?
  23. Our local bus company, Preston Bus, does MOTs but not repairs, as does our local ambulance service garage. I don't know if Police or Fire Service garages do them but given that Ambulance do, I'd say it's worth a call to find out.
