  1. This is unwelcome news I must say. Hope the OP gets this sorted ok. Can’t see why it can’t be an insurance claim though. Was the car insured on a third party, fire and theft basis or was it fully comprehensive?
  2. I purchased a brand new IS300h Executive in August 2014. Initially I loved it but the more I drove it the more I felt it wasn’t as nice a drive as a previous generation IS250 SE-L I’d had. Performance was a bit one dimensional, ie a bit all or nothing and the relationship between accelerator and forward motion was very non-linear. The sound was awful too, at least in comparison with the V6. I decided to swap the IS300H for a same generation IS250 F-Sport with premium nav and ML audio. The car was much nicer to drive in terms of enjoyment but I was disappointed with the performance and realised over the course of six months that the IS300H had more performance than a same generation IS250. I also found the F-Sport to be a little too firm on the road for me. In my younger days I’m sure I’d have loved it mind. I swapped to a Jaguar XF 3.0 D S Portfolio and all was well with the world. I then suffered some reliability issues and visited the dealership too much for my liking. I missed Lexus reliability and the ownership experience. Since then I’ve had a 2015 IS200T Sport, a 2014 NX300H, a 2019 IS300H Sport and now a 2016 NX300H. There are still times when I miss a bit of performance but my driving has changed and I definitely get hybrids now much more than I did back in 2014. For refinement they can’t be beaten. I agree that it is essential to drive as many different versions as you can and make your own own mind up based on your own wants and needs. If I was in the market for an IS now I would hunt down the best 2nd generation late model IS I could find, say a 2012 model, and go for this. I would however test this back to back with a 3rd generation IS250 Executive or Luxury. I’d likely steer clear of an F-Sport but I’d be intrigued to try a Premier although this does have 18” wheels. The sweet spot for a 3rd generation IS is 17” wheels I think, if you want some level of comfort. I do believe the 3rd generation IS handles considerably better than a 2nd generation IS. The former is more ‘sport’ oriented, the latter more ‘comfort’ oriented. just my own opinions though. Good luck with your search 👍
  3. Those were the days! I remember them well 😀
  4. Yep cars have certainly grown no doubt about it. NCAP and our desire to have as much tech kit packed into our cars as possible has forced all cars to grow over the years. I think I’d feel pretty exposed in a classic Mini on out roads nowadays. I love ‘em though.
  5. Your argument makes no sense. People buy what they want to buy and this is entirely reasonable. Empathy means having an understanding and acceptance of other people’s choices, nothing more. You have zero empathy towards anyone that holds a different view to you and you go on and on and on expressing your opinions and trying to force people to agree with you. Then, when this doesn’t work you say that they are wrong and cannot justify their opinions. You have zero empathy with anyone who holds a different opinion to you, absolutely zero.
  6. Not across marques but here is my experience. Both of my NX vehicles have comfortably beaten the four 3rd generation IS vehicles I’ve owned in terms of depreciation. I sold my first NX for slightly under what I paid for it after 12 months of ownership. My current NX cannot now be bought for what I paid for it 12 months ago. The four IS vehicles I owned lost me a total of about £25k. £18k of that was for two brand new vehicles sold after 12 months and 18 months so it is about £7k for the two used IS vehicles I’ve owned. Versus almost nothing for the two used NX vehicles I’ve owned. Both NX were also kept twice as long as the two used IS. Some of this is down to demand I’m sure, there are just more people out there wanting to buy an NX rather than an IS.
  7. That is really no way to talk about one’s partner you know! 😉🤣🤣🤣
  8. That is not a great comparison. You’ve picked the three door classic mini hatch and the 5 door Mini Countryman. Of course they will be massively different in size because they are not the same class of car.
  9. I don’t understand it. Drive what you want to drive and have some empathy with people who want to drive something else.
  10. Tell you what though, if you lost the back end in a corner with that weight in the boot the car would stop spinning in the next county! 🤣🤣🤣
  11. And that last sentence was a joke. I know how serious some can be on here when they spot something on the internet that isn’t in line with their own views and beliefs 🤣
  12. Why can’t people just buy an SUV because they have chosen to? Why can’t people buy saloons because they have chosen to? It’s a free world last time I looked and people have a right to buy what they want. To ask people to justify why they have bought a particular style of car just because you don’t agree with that choice is ridiculous. By you I mean anyone who might rubbish someone else for their choice of car. I couldn’t give a fig whether someone disagrees with my choice of an SUV. It’s irrelevant because it’s my money, my choice and it is a choice I’m free to make. I’m happy for those that wouldn’t ever choose an SUV too because it’s their right to choose whatever they want. Of course not buying an SUV is a mistake.....
  13. Thanks for explaining. This wasn’t clear from the previous posts. Or at least not to me 😀 I may well do a check to see if the service interval counter counts down exactly the same as the mileage reading counts up. 200 miles over a 9,800 mile period is a 2% difference which seems excessive and I’d have thought the inputs to both counters would be the same anyway. I can’t help thinking that the mileage was not accurate on the previous service invoice and that this is the reason for the circa 200 miles discrepancy.
  14. The last time I got one of those files with an approved used Lexus was in 2017. Didn’t get one in 2020 with my current NX. Maybe ask for one? Although they may not do it now, they may still have some spare?
  15. I think, judging by the enormous effort that all car makers are now going to, that BEVs are here to stay. We’ll have to make huge investments in our generating capacity and distribution facilities to make it work but I suspect it will happen. Not by 2030 though so I suspect this date might move right a little. I’d like to see an IS BEV, I really would. Hoping to get an extended test in a UX E soon.
  16. I imagine that a lack of traction wouldn’t be an issue 😀
  17. Fair enough and probably short enough to not harm the tyres 👍
  18. I so agree with this. There is much more to driving than obsessing about fuel consumption. I’d rather be out there driving my car.
  19. How are you so sure that you have done 9800 miles since the last service? How has this been measured and recorded? Is it perhaps possible that the mileage wasn’t 41,461 at the last service? From the evidence you have provided so far I cannot see how you can be so sure that 200 miles have been added whilst the car was being serviced.
  20. Hope you put more air in the tyres there!
