  1. So it appears that the wireless charging creates a magnetic field around the charger/phone, as a result I have a feeling that this is what is causing the issue and stopping the car from “seeing” my smart key Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. About a week ago I bought a wireless phone charger to go in the IS300h, looked on amazon and found one that had good feedback and was a stick down one as I didn’t want one that hung off the air vents So I fitted it, checked it all worked and then parked the car for a few days in the garage. Couple of days later I went to get the car out and whilst it started it flashed up that keys were not in the car, my first thought was the battery in the key was running low. Holding the key against the power button and the warning went away. Yesterday some new cr2032 batteries were fitted to the keys and again it worked without any issues, however I didn’t realise that the power lead for the wireless charger has been disconnected. This morning got in the car, started the car no problem, reconnected the power lead on the charger unit and went to the fuel station. Filled up and then tried to start the car, again it flashed up the message that the keys were not in the car, even when they were in my pocket as they normally are. So after some messing about back at home, jumping in and out of the car etc. It appears that the wireless charger interferes with the signal between the key and the power button Every day’s a school day as they say Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I’ve run a gen2 Prius and sold that when it got to 170,000 miles and replace that with a IS300h. That was two years ago, since then I have done about 100,000 miles in my iS and have had no problems at all. It does everything that the Prius did but with just a little bit more comfort and finesse. It will cope with the short journeys as well as the Prius did but it will deal with the longer journeys on the motorway far far better. Over my hundred thousand miles I would guess I’m averaging about 45 to the gallon. Would I recommend an iS over a prius, absolutely Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Roof liner, when you do the 3d view inside you can “look up” and see there’s a couple of black marks on the ceiling Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. the white one looks to have a few additional items such as a bumper protector and boot liner, aside from that, and 10,000 miles there really isnt that much in it, the black car has a couple of marks on the headliner that i would like to see cleaned up. They both look to be good cars and i would imagine will be looked over thoroughly before Lexus Bristol let them go out the door, personally i prefer the 300h in darker colours, i think it suits the car better. Neither of them appear to have the premium sound system in them, IIRC the premium system has the mouse controller and certianly has better sound quality over the normal system.
  6. Go for it, it’s always interesting to see peoples views on comparable vehicles Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I'm guessing no (as in, don't ask somebody who's gone through this [emoji2959] to take pictures [emoji16]), but I'll ask anyway: Any pictures? A few, I will do a how to a little later Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. As you open the bonnet look at the gap between the air box and the rear of the headlight, you will see a small portion of the chassis leg, this was where mine has started to corrode. I have had a number of 1.8 Prius and they have an issue with the egr cooler blocking when they start getting to 100,000 plus miles, when they block they cause other issues and finally seem to culminate in them blowing their head gaskets. The 2.5 isn’t the same engine but there are similarities and so I decided that I would bite the bullet and put a secondhand one on that I had bought from eBay and cleaned up. Mine was completely blocked but certainly wasn’t able to flow as well as a cleaned one, I would guess another 20k Miles and it would have been clogged, so it was more preventative maintenance really. But god it’s a royal pain in the arse job to do, it makes the Prius one look like a doddle and that was always considered a bit of a challenge Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I admit to being a little heavy on the brakes, my drive home is 20 miles of really nice twisty A road and I’m known to enjoy the road quite frequently [emoji6] The wheels are original paint but the paint has lifted really badly, especially around the Lexus logos on the wheel centres. I have 3 toyotas previously and they all went the same way. Mind you at 150k they’ve seen there fair share of salty roads so a refurb is in order soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Last night my IS300h racked up 150,000 miles Im the second owner and have done 91,000 miles in the last 23 months. I have all of the previous service history from new so I though I would share some stats: So far its had 12 services (one every 12.5K) ever since I have had the car I have been changing all the filters on every service and it has only been run on 0W20 oil, it has has 2 sets of denso plugs replaced and is now on its 3rd set. Its had its EGR cooler cleaned out. I bought a secondhand one and cleaned that out, then on a weekend I replaced my original with this one. What a nightmare of a job that was!! But one that I felt was required I have paperwork for 7 complete sets of tyres, although they were not all replaced at the same time and in my ownership I have suffered 2 punctures that rendered the tyre useless, one of them on a tyre the had only done 800 miles. The car has been run on either Continentals or Falken tyres and since i've had the car I've only ever run the tyres at 39psi and they wear pretty evenly. Ive never had to have the tracking or alignment done and the car still tracks true. Ive done 2 diff oil changes and one gearbox oil change, the engine antifreeze has been changed. currently I am considering changing the inverter fluid but I have heard horror stories about getting airlocks in the system and bleeding is supposed to be a it difficult. All of the suspension is original, there are no rattles or squeaks and the ride is still very comfortable, everyone who travels in the car is impressed with the ride quality. Brakes, this is one area where Toyota/Lexus always seem to suffer, and my IS is no exception, its on its 3rd set of front discs, 5 set of front brake pads, 2nd set of rear discs and 3rd set of rear pads. It currently has EBC grooved discs and EBC pads on the front and genuine discs and pads on the rear. in the last 5000 miles I have replaced both rear calipers as they were seized and the fronts have had new slider kits fitted. The interior is spotless, mine is the SE spec so only has the half leather, the seats are still supportive even after a 500 mile round trip to London, on the cold mornings I do miss heated seats though. I know the infotainment system gets a slating but its not that bad, I have the premium stereo with the mouse controller and it takes a bit of getting used to but ive now got the hang of it although the sat nav can be a bit hit and miss with its routing at time, and the stereo gives good sound quality. Mechanically its still brilliant, it uses very little oil between services, it has a very small weep on the crankshaft front oil seal and this is the reason for the oil use. I can still get over 55mpg on a run and 45 mpg around town. It still pulls like a train, especially in sport mode. The Hybrid battery appears to still be in good condition, I have recently acquired techstream and am interested in interrogated the battery to see how well the cells are holding up Air conditioning is ice cold, its never been recharged Niggles/issues: There are only a few niggles I have, one of them is there is a rattle from the passenger seat when there is no one sat in it, I have a feeling there is. wire looks in the seat. The front bumper is absolutely spattered with stone chips and needs a resprayed at the same time the leading edge of the bonnet would benefit from a bit of paint as well. that aside the overall paintwork is in really nice condition. The wheels are typical Toyota/Lexus quality, the paint is flaking and the wheels now need refurbishing. The front edge of the O/S chassis leg was found to be quite rusty, this has now been rectified by a bodyshop after Lexus decided they would not do it under their body warranty. So that's the first 150,000 miles, I reckon I will see 200,000 miles in about 13 months time. Would it recommend one? Yes, Would I have another one? Very possibly, but would prefer a GS300h next time as they have a slightly larger boot which would work better when doing airport/ferryport runs, but if I can't get on e at the right price/mileage then ill happily have another IS300h
  11. Ahh yes, forgot about that small point. If you can wait I would say it was worth it. I’ve used other touch up paints and none of them are as good as the Lexus ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I went down your suggested route and downloaded the VM and win7 32 bit Just waiting for the lead to arrive, hopefully that will go smoother than setting up a shared folder [emoji2959] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Bit more detailing work today on the taxi...... today the rear lights. Given that the rest of the car now looks so much better and has about 90% of the scratches removed I stated looking at the lights and could see they were dull and had a lot of swirls on them. They were stripped off the car as it was a lot easier to deal with them on the bench This one had a couple of deep scratches on it that always caught my eye With some scholl s30 black a finishing pad and a polishing pad The scratch has been removed And a 50/50, the polished one on the left It’s one of these small differences that no one else may notice, but I know they are done now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I have only ever used Lexus touch up paint, dearer than other paint but about the best match I have found. Black sapphire is the same as mine, looks great in the direct sunshine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. 30 years ago I worked in a dealership, we were having 2 posts ramps fitted at to replace all our old 4 posters. We were told explicitly do not jack on the sill jacking points, we were to put the pads on chassis legs or structural crossmembers. Reason for this was a jacking point can take the weight of one wheel off the ground but may not be able to handle to full weight of a vehicle, even though it is one of 4 contact points. In both of these instances that looks like the garage isn't taking care with your vehicles
  16. Yes, I am looking at the ones on Ebay and amazon, there are V12/13/14, I don't want the latest if it isn't reliable, but at the same time I don't want an older version if it won't connect to my IS or doesn't allow me to customise what I want
  17. Ive got to the point where I need to connect a laptop to my car so I can change some settings, I know that I can buy a Vci lead on Ebay, however there are so many of them and so many different versions. Calling on other peoples experience here, what's the best/latest reliable version to get? if it makes a difference my car is a 2014. Will it run on Win10 or am I stuck with Win7/XP? I will be connecting to Lexus/Toyota rather than using pirated software that sometimes comes with the Lead, I know it costs money per hour etc but I know its a reliable connection rather than some dodgy software. Thanks in advance
  18. I don’t think the fronts suffered badly as calipers, possibly because the front calipers do get more use than the calipers. And I have only ever overhauled one set of front calipers in my time owning Toyota/Lexus products Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Looks like we are already at that point with some of the earlier cars. The basic design of the caliper was used throughout the Toyota range and have been renown for giving problems for as long as I can remember. Every single Toyota I have owned has had to have its rear calipers overhauled and the problem has always been the slider pins. The main piston never gives any issues as long as the rubber boot is in good condition, I ended up overhauling a good low mileage set of rear calipers for my IS, once I had the old calipers off I overhauled them with new pins/boots etc and have kept them for a rainy day. Or I may sell them if they are knocking about for too long Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Yes sorry rear screen Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Does anyone know if the rear window for a 3rd gen IS is the same size as a 2nd gen car? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Do you have the seller details? I’ve seen a few but some of them look a little rough Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Put the car in for mot and I was shocked when it failed!!![emoji15] When we replaced the calipers we put new copper washers on the banjo bolts, one of these was faulty and as we did it up it fractured and allowed a very small leak to appear, only losing a few millilitres but enough to make that whole area around the hose and caliper wet. Back home and with a new washer on there the leak was cured, whilst I was there I noticed just how dirty the inner arch/rear suspension was, so out came the pressure washer and the bottle of bilt hamber Korrosol. The Korrosol is an excellent fallout remover, it reacts with metallic particles and turns dark red, however it does have a very pungent smell to it And also the reverse side of the wheels as well The black that was left on the wheels was either old stick from previous balance weights and also where the paint has lifted. My biggest gripe with Toyota/Lexus is the totally poor paint finish on their wheels, every Toyota/Lexus I have owned has had shoddy wheel finishes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I change the diff oil every 40,000 miles, it’s such a straightforward job to do and again it insures that everything runs smoothly. I have had a number of Prius in the past and it was widely acknowledged that changing the transmission fluid every 100,000 miles prolonged the life of the gearbox, Summer owners were changing fluids at 50,000 miles. Toyota and Lexus will tell you that the oil is suitable for the life of the vehicle but when you ask them what they consider to be an acceptable lifespan/milage they can’t give you an accurate figure. The cost of the transmission fluid is fairly steep but it is unique to the hybrid CVT gearbox and if it means that I do 200,000 or 300,000 miles without any issue then for me that’s a price worth paying. On long journeys it is great, I will easily do 500 miles a day and not have any back pain or any discomfort. My customers love the car and frequently comment on how smooth it drives and how quiet it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. plodding on with the polishing, im in no hurry so end up doing a panel a day. Today its the back door, the lower part was in a really bad way, lots of scrapes from branches and bushes, a throwback to a time when I used to do a very rural taxi run. As I no longer do it im hoping that the paint will last a little longer before getting damaged You can see the back edge of the back door in this pic from a previous post sorry about the huge sized vid but it gives you an idea how bad it is and the improvement we made from the front door to the rear door IMG_1093.MOV The other thing that's always bothered me is there is a mark on the centre pillar trim, so whilst I can I got rid of that as well.... The first picture shows the damage, the second and third are the result after a few passes with the polisher There still loads to do, once I have done all of this I will then start on the interior, in the meantime its MOT time tomorrow 😟 fingers crossed it should pass
