  1. Sorry for repeating myself (age) I completely agree with Anthony’s reply on the pro’s and con’s of the ES and IS.
  2. With 40k. If that is the correct amount. You should be looking at a very good ES, top of the range. IS was a great looking car but not sold in UK any more. Go and test drive both. You will get a lot of change if you decide on a IS. But the refinement of an ES may sway you. I have owed both. If I could have an ES in a IS shape. I would. All the best with your purchase.

  4. Excellent! Happy New Year to all.
  5. Could the problem be the, that wiper rubber is rock hard due to the very cold weather recently?
  6. Supermarket car parks are horrid places for ES’S, even at the best of times. The majority of the drivers completely ignore all the rules of the road and become kamikazes. I have yet to see designated Lexus parking bays! Merry Xmas and a happy New year to all.
  7. Remember the days we replaced our old headlamps, with sealed beam units. Oh we felt so superior. I was lucky, I got mine for the MK 1 Corina I iffy. My old man was a lorry driver for Osram GEC.
  8. Great advice from all in this thread. Mine leave the ES in the garage, drive etc. if you can. It is less likely to be damaged by a novice driver who doesn’t understand the effect of ice on traction and braking. Trust me I have jackknifed at 15 mph, got out of the cab, then fell over arse over tit.
  9. Mind you I do agree with the steering lock. That can be bugger In supermarket car parks etc. i still can’t get my head, completely around those cameras etc. my fault. Sometimes I feel l could have parked a 40 foot artic more easily.
  10. Thank you Nick, for such a comprehensive review. As a retired motor/ HGV engineer, Japanese vehicles, but built in Japan have always had the edge on reliability and build quality, albeit rust in early days. German car reliability has sadly declined recently, other than badge snobbery. The 22 on ES Premier is even somewhat better. I feel that ES owners like something more unique and less common. They can forgive the foibles. Enjoy.
  11. You will not lose all the 2k contribution. You pay a small amount of interest on the loan. As previously stated.
  12. Are there rotator caps on top of valve stems? A shot in the dark, have they bottomed? It does sound top end valve train. So strange no miss or lack of power? Hope you soon find a solution.
  13. James I worry about you. If the occupants we’re going to the Airport, I’m sure they would be heading for the Executive Lounge, before boarding 1st class.
  14. Remember you can purchase genuine Lexus blade insert. Very easy to fit. The mount doesn’t require replacement if not damaged etc.
  15. Sorry for the intrusion.
  16. Colin. Please excuse my curiosity of your name. Are you related to Charlie Barber. Ex Barber Transport Hackbridge?
  17. Colin, completely away from g/ box oil. I understand why b/fluid is changed. The hygroscopic effect is also caused by fluid boiling and causing a void in the fluid line. Mind you cannot be a problem on a Lexus as the don’t generate much heat.
  18. A very detailed thread, explaining the do’s and don’t of changing oil. Am I being too simplistic? Oil gets hot, contaminated and deteriorates. Is it any different to regular changes of brake fluid, coolant and diff etc. All can have problems if not carried correctly. It can only be beneficial.
  19. Make sure they do the third year service and MOT. You will enjoy the low VED. Happy birthday for the 18th. 50! I wish. All the best now.
  20. Hello Nick. I am sure you will appreciate and enjoy the ES with the premium pack. A great choice between the Sport and Takumi. I am on my third now, it is such an amazing pleasure to drive.
  21. Love to to take the sump down and see this debris. Come on this 2022, not the days of non breathing relics from the past. All a big con!
