  1. I paid £391 last year with Aviva. Now £770. Some were £950 + Done the comparison sites online, got down to £552 with Hastings. What gives me the hump is there is no tailoring to your needs. I don’t want European, key, and legal cover etc. Is it my age 71? Taking into consideration (which they don’t). 4k per year, 14yrs + NCD, 2 IAM driving tests, car and HGVI , Lexus link, dashcam and locked garage. If only Lexus could solve this theft problem. How dare we own a Lexus.
  2. Quite outrageous James! Surely there is a No fly zone around Betsy. I’m sure you now how to remove it safely. Take a deep slow breath and keep that blood pressure down. All the best.
  3. Are indicators, now an optional extra? It must be! as not many people seem to use this device.
  4. Darrel. I’m so sorry to hear of your experience of Lexus “valeting” I agree it is bloody abysmal and should best be avoided. When I collected my new car, it wasn’t quite up to standard . It had been left outside. I mentioned this to the salesman he apologised and said “I will not allow the valeter to touch one of my new cars” They are all contractors. The same scenario happened on my son’s ES went in spotless, told not to clean, they did! Same outcome as yours. Disgraceful. Complain right to the top.
  5. I had MK I Cortina and fitted a Senn sound 8 track. Wasn’t impressed with self destruction of tapes!
  6. Carl what was the outcome of your corrosion problem? Don’t look at the inner wheel stations etc. They will be the same. All ferrous metal cannot be surface rust free. You need some WD 40. Very upsetting about your experience at Lexus. Unfortunately a sign of the times we live in now.
  7. Dear oh dear. So sorry to hear of your ES being stolen. I didn’t realise that the ES was a target until now. Mine is a locked garage, but still could be got at when parked elsewhere. With all the electronic expertise around, surely Lexus can come up with a fix/ deterrent? Specially taking in to account all the superfluous stuff they have incorporated into the ES. I think legal action should be taken out on Lexus.
  8. If the IS 300h was available now, with the refinement of the ES 300h, I would have one. Iconic, ageless styling. Love my ES, but the size and manoeuvrability of the IS suited us two oldies very well.
  9. How dare I buy an ES Premium pack! I realised I would be stung for VED. (£510) Even though, with discount it was well below the 40k threshold. Next March it will be £570! “I cannot bloody believe it.” As Victor would say. Where is money going. Certainly not on the potholes In Surrey.
  10. Such an excellent evaluation of the ES. Incidentally my son is in Singapore at present and can’t believe the amount of ES ‘s he has seen, albeit 350 ES.
  11. Return them. Damage could cause a balance problem, also it might well crack near the damaged area,
  12. Ye gods. That bloody light switch stalk. By the time you think have sorted it the sun comes out! Very frustrating. I leave the bugger on auto and hope for the best.
  13. Oh dear. Gone but not forgotten. RIP Roy of the Rovers.
  14. Will they repair a 10 inch “scratch”.? I doubt it. As previously stated make sure everything works, if it is not OEM. If it was scratch would this be considered as cracked screen then be void of a claim?
  15. Do not use coppaslip. Always a favourite years ago , but not now. Use the grease supplied with the pads. We would always use coppaslip on 1st motion shafts when replacing the clutch. Now if you have warranty claim on the clutch and manufacturer found any residue of coppaslip the claim would be void. It dries out and sticks. Same on wheel nuts and studs. We were banned from using it onHGV wheel studs and nuts. It affected the torque clamping force. Only engine oil is used. Source Institute Road Transport Engineers.
  16. Oh well, just been informed by BEAM that I’m not eligible for their survey. Deep grief! After owning 3 ES’s. Feel like Dusty Bin.😢
  17. Interesting Steve. I received the same email. You have me thinking now, especially if you supply bank details. I may defer completing the survey until validation from Lexus. The person I spoke to seemed very knowledgeable on Lexus products.
  18. Took a mate to Epsom Hospital today. Deep grief, 1st, no designated Lexus parking bays! Then the alloy wheel and coil spring destroying pot holes. A very unpleasant experience. Good job they had an A&E for my elevated blood pressure.
  19. Hope you enjoy your new ES. I’m sure you will. Looking forward to your comments on the car. All the very best.
  20. With all the electronics etc on modern cars, wishful thinking, but let’s get back to more simple deterrents. Parked on a driveway how about small black chocks? A device which will keep the brakes on? Well over the top but fixed hydraulic ram to one side of the drive axle, just jacking the wheel a few millimetres off the ground? Just my mad thoughts!
  21. As you stated reliability is the key to Lexus ownership. No car is perfect for everybody. But I think as retired vehicle engineer, Lexus/Toyota take some beating. I migrated to an IS 300 when I couldn’t replace my Honda Accord in 2015. I thought nothing could beat the Accord, after owning 4. I was wrong, and let’s not forget the Accord’s ferocious appetite for rear brake pads and seized calipers and abysmal fuel consumption. I am now on my 3rd ES. As I have stated previously, would love an IS with the refinement etc of the ES.
