  1. Are you sure that this isn't one of the 'safety' systems kicking in? The car warns you if you change lane without indicating. It thinks you have gone to sleep and are drifting off course! The effect is similar to being hit by a strong gust of wind. Personally, I don't like it and would let me carry on with my nap!
  2. Interesting positive spin The Swedish Guy has put on E10. I go the other way, I don't want my fuel absorbing more water because of the corrosive effect water has on components. In my 450, a tank full of petrol can sit for weeks before being used so I would rather have the higher quality E5 that has less ethanol sitting in my tank for these prolonged periods. I only put in E10 (and quite happy to do so, when I am embarking on a long journey and I know I will get through the fuel before it has chance to absorb any moisture. I have never had a problem with condensated water in winter, perhaps because our temperatures don't get as low as they do in Sweden. The only winter fuel issue I've had is with diesel, which can go thick and waxy in very cold temperatures. I believe the companies use to put an anti-waxing agent in the fuel in winter; not sure if they still do.
  3. By coincidence, My app wanted me to agree a new set of permissions today. Took a look and data only passed to insurer if opted into the 'connected insurance score visualisation services'. Definitely, some things I don't agree to and I was able to opt out of these (Personalised comms, Partner access, Insights and Innovating products and services) but app would not let me do anything without first agreeing to the new Privacy Notice T&Cs and the Smart Services T&Cs. The latter appears to sweep up all manner of services, including: Standard Car Services, Remote Services, Insurance Services (if you're in the scheme), HomeCharge services and Smart Car Services. The link to what these are for is just a general advert for the app and I found it impossible to link the T&Cs with particular functions (in the car and/or app), let alone how to opt out of things I don't want. To be honest it appears such a catch-all and so very confusingly worded that I don't know what I have agreed to this afternoon! But the lack of clarity has created a mis-trust and I don't appear to have a choice as everything appears to be wrapped up in one agreement. I might be wrong, hope I am. I have a dealer appointment next week so I shall be asking some tough questions - but I'm not expecting robust answers as all the T&Cs come out of Toyota Europe.
  4. Trend is definitely improving, albeit at 0.1 miles at a time! Latest for me is 45.9/42.0 Oddly, for the last 3 trips, the ICE has cut in even though the dash display and app are showing approx 2 miles of EV range remaining. That range would have got me safely home so it's annoying that the ICE has cut in because there hasn't been time for it to reach operating temperature before I park up. Anybody else experienced anything similar?
  5. Important, I think, to read what you happy to agree to. I think, hope, that our laws give greater protection; I haven't read anything that gives my permission to pass data to insurance companies (unless directed to by a court) and wouldn't agree to this voluntarily. I have opted out of passing data to a third party company that says it is asking for data to improve road sign recognition for example, but I have opted 'in' to receiving live traffic updates for which the system needs to know my location. We have to make our own choices about these things. Some dealers helpfully set up the app for their customers when they purchase/collect their car but, invariably, they just accept all the terms when they do so to help ensure everything works as it was designed to. If privacy is a concern, then either, at the time or soon after, check what is being/has been agreed to. I was reasonably happy with Toyota terms. I particularly looked for what would happen to my phone contacts details as my old 2017 Ford T&Cs indicated that all my contacts would be passed to Ford in the USA. I didn't agree to this, even though Ford's intentions were probably honourable. I didn't read anything similar in the Toyota T&Cs so assumed (maybe naively) that this information would be kept exclusively between me, my car and my phone. I do feel that I'm part of an experiment with all the (car) data being collected. I don't want to pass on my data but, at the same time, if this data helps manufacturers improve their systems then that has to be a good thing. Some of the software controlled 'safety systems' are, frankly, pretty bad, dangerous at times, so the sooner real world conditions are understood, the sooner we might get safer safety systems.
  6. Errr, interesting. Mine came with the 2 cables and screwdriver but no European Safety Kit. I did get a bag but it's not big enough or the right shape for cables so I've never been sure about its intended purpose. Although the cables do fit under the boot floor, I have given up putting them there as it's too awkward to get them out every day or so.
  7. I would still make a positive request for the work to be done though. It won't be a recall as it is not a safety issue and, because the parts are coloured, your dealer needs to order them specifically for your colour of car. They are unlikely to have them in stock and mine have taken over a month to arrive (well 3 of the 4 have been delivered!).
  8. I'm not sure about your model but later models have an optical sensor (located up by the mirror and looks out through the windscreen). I suspect that when your windscreen was replaced, this sensor wasn't connected or had been damaged in some way.
  9. I haven't noticed this either and I'm a bit surprised as the battery isn't actually exhausted, it still has around 30% charge in it even when it is 'empty' enough for the ICE to kick in. Even a good battery won't heat the cabin to the same (higher) temperatures as the engine as the HVAC system isn't as efficient (at heating); that's why the ICE will cut in on very cold days or if you use Hi mode to clear the screen and warm the car even with a fully charged battery.
  10. I had been asking myself the same question and last night found a LSFT video released about a month ago that, whilst not definitive, strongly suggested we are okay as far as CANBUS goes. He refers a lot to the OpenPilot info that Colin references. After I watched it, I went back through many of the 'NX Stolen' threads on this forum; all those I found referred to the older model; further strengthening the argument for the latest model being more secure. I wish Lexus were more open about this (without giving the details away), it would have saved me a few sleepless nights 😉
  11. I'm looking forward to getting my new door handles next month (well 3 anyway, the fourth hasn't arrived!). Unfortunately, I've had the frozen charge port flap a few times last year and this, and now it doesn't open or close properly whatever the weather. Hopefully just an adjustment that will get done when I go in for the door handles. With a 300 miles plus round trip to the dealer, I could do without these little snags. Still love my car overall though.
  12. I wonder if this is a knock-on benefit of Google's purchase of Waze in 2013?
  13. Thanks Colin, interesting and explains why some owners have been told to expect annual updates and I was told that my map didn't need a dealer update (9.8" screen). When out today, the satnav correctly warned me of queueing traffic ahead. Only a couple of BT vans but it was right. Would I have got that with a 14" screen?
  14. When I picked up my car, it took several days before all the features started working, not all came on at the same time. That was with the original link app but I imagine it would be the same with the new link + app.
  15. After my glitch in October, my figures have been gradually increasing and are back to where they once were, very close to the experience of other owners. Average of last 3 charges is 46.8/41.4 with, I think, similar actual distances. I wonder how reliable the app reported distances are? Was my sudden drop in October just an app issue rather than an actual change in range? I suspect it might be as the dash reported range hasn't varied by the same amount; although, naturally, it has decreased with the cold weather.
  16. I would push them a bit harder. I mentioned that I wanted to door handles replaced at my service last September; this didn't happen (no parts) but after problems during the cold spell in December, new parts were ordered but still aren't due in country until 24th January. Apparently, some colours are quicker to get than others but, given the time lag, I would want them on order sooner rather than later. Like you, I didn't have problems last winter when the car was newer and, I think, the winter was milder. I hope that the new door handles are a modified design and don't suffer the same problem after being in use for a year. Owner reports so far are good, no reported problems with the new handles, so hopefully Lexus have found a permanent solution.
  17. I don't know the answer to your question but it might be worth taking a look at the latest Car Care Nut video on YouTube where somebody got a $750 bill after fitting after-market lights to their vehicle.
  18. Just a thought. I went to charge my car today, which was all frozen up. I had to pry open the charging door and then went to connect my cable. After connecting at the wall, I was going to connect to the car when I noticed the plunger was still pushed in (maybe frozen). Mindful of your issue, I should have plugged the cable into the car to see if it locked in but, as I have been having a few issues opening and closing my charge door, I automatically manually released the plunger before connecting the cable. I suspect that it wouldn't have locked in had I not done so but I missed the opportunity to experiment. My question is, is your plunger (the one in the charging door area and indicates if the door has been left open) sticking and perhaps preventing the car locking in?
  19. I really prefer that it is called an eCVT as the system fitted to current models is technically very, very different to the whining dual cone and belt CVT system that I think were first fitted to DAF cars, and which many journalists still have in their heads when they talk of CVT 'issues'. Personally, I have no issues with the eCVT on my 450h+ and have absolutely no cause for complaint when planting my right foot after an outside lane hogger finally moves over on the motorway!
  20. I have had this randomly 2 or 3 times Ken but in each case the solution suggested by Colin (Hayzee) has worked for me.
  21. When I was looking to buy my next car, I ruled out the NX350 because, with my commute, I would have benefitted from EV mode for about 20 yards when leaving home or my place of work and thereafter been running on the ICE. It didn't seem sensible to carry the extra weight around for such a dubious benefit. Hence, I bought the NX450 plug-in hybrid and can do 100% of my commute on battery. However, whilst I wouldn't swap my NX450, my thinking was flawed. Colin explains very well how a mild hybrid should be used. The NX450 can be forced into HV (ICE) mode, which I do frequently, but even in this mode, the battery takes over in slow moving traffic (ie. the car is operating as a mild hybrid). The main reason it does so is to reduce emissions. The ICE is at its most inefficient and most polluting at low rpm trying to accelerate 2500Kg from standstill so it is much cleaner and more environmentally friendly to let the battery overcome this initial inertia. I want to be green and not pollute the people in our towns so a mild hybrid is a very good choice, as long as people don't expect to travel miles using battery power alone.
  22. Just had an update from my dealer, eta for replacement door handles from Japan is 24 January. It does depend on colour though, some colours are easier to get hold of than others. I don't know if I can make it until then but I've bought some of those handwarmers that slip inside your glove just in case. Hoping that if the doors do freeze up again, these will help defrost them (I didn't have much joy with warm water).
