  1. Thanks Steve. My app is on a smartphone connected to O2 but I thought the car had its own sim card in it that talked to Toyota (ie the Toyota servers) and passed on all that data they collect when we agreed to the T&Cs. I don't know what network this would use but wouldn't it be the same for every user? And, if so, wouldn't the packet delays affect everybody's communication between the servers and the DCM (or whatever computer is handling the data)? I'm not saying this is how the system works, it's obviously very complicated and my simple brain probably couldn't cope with the complexity of it all!
  2. Sorry Steve but I cannot agree. If it was a server support problem, all owners would be having the same issue. Clearly there are problems that need to get fixed but rarely am I asked to login, very rarely have I had the 'cannot load profile' message, 97% of my journeys have been recorded, my location has invariably been correct and, most of the time, i can use climate control to warm the car (with the caveat that I cannot always get the car/app to accept the full 20 mins and/or all the options, front & rear screen, seats and steering wheel). Lexus/Toyota need to work harder to understand why the experience differs between customers because that would give them clues as to where to look. For example, I only use one key and have one profile set up and I'm sure this helps avoid clashes in the software that are likely caused with the use of multiple keys and profiles.
  3. It would be churlish of me to complain since my vehicle was supplied with locking wheel bolts but Colin's information does explain why my locking wheel bolts are already showing signs of corrosion. I hope that the redesigned sets that people are waiting for will benefit from better corrosion resistance.
  4. Still going up! Last few charges have been: (oldest) 45.6, 45.8, 45.9 46.1 and 46.4 (latest). Of course these small rises have to be seen in the context that I was getting over 50 in the summer - as explained in my post of 23rd November. It's as if the car reset itself to 'new' in the Welsh air and has been gradually improving since - as most of us found during our first few months of ownership.
  5. With a heavy frost, a 20 minute cycle defrosts the front door windows but not the rear door windows.
  6. I think that is how it is designed to work, mine does the same. I read somewhere that heating the seat and steering wheel was the most efficient way of keeping the driver warm and comfortable; saves the energy of heating a big empty space.
  7. Having had a heated front screen on my last car (which was half the price of my NX), I am disappointed with the winter experience, which spoils an otherwise excellent car. Had to phone my dealer today after a few days of frozen doors, frozen wipers and frozen washer nozzles. Even the most basic of environmental chamber and real world testing during development would have revealed the inadequacy of the set up. I'll say no more as there is so much to like about the NX.
  8. Interesting comment Colin. I thought a garaged car would be less visible to would be thieves and therefore reduce the premium?
  9. I was with Direct Line last year, £400. This year's renewal quote was for £623. Tried Flow (part of LV) but they wanted over £900. Aviva came in at £542 (is your car garaged Ken?) after adding protected NCD, legal cover, courtesy car and injury protection (basic was £412). Went back to Direct Line and ended up paying £562; still a big jump from last year but could have been worse.
  10. John, people often refer to wheel nuts as the majority of older cars had these fitted but our NX is fitted with wheel bolts. My information, from a contributor to a US forum, is that there wasn't space to fit a ML system (or some parts of it) in the 2022 models, nothing to do with weight.
  11. Alistair is right, the system decides. The HVAC system is limited in the amount of heat it can produce so in cold temperatures, the engine will kick in to provide the necessary heat for the electrical system and the passengers. The engine may also kick in if there is extra load, going up hill for example. For efficiency, the engine doesn't cut out immediately, the engine needs to get up to operating temperature. Trust the system, unlike the app, it is well sorted and works well.
  12. Mine started to go off at about 11 months and was completely flat by the time it went for its annual service. I wasn't expecting this as the battery in my last car was still going strong 5 years later.
  13. I consider two factors. One is price; this time last year there was a massive 32p/ltr difference between Esso E5 and Asda E10 and I couldn't justify the higher price of E5. The other factor is that I have a PHEV meaning that I have only added 18 tankful's of petrol in the last 15 months. Methanol absorbs moisture more easily than petrol so if the fuel is sitting in the tank unused for weeks on end (which it does sometimes) then it will have absorbed water, E10 more than E5 because of the higher methanol content. I don't think moisture is good for the engine or related components. In practice, if I am doing a long trip and/or filling regularly than E10 is acceptable. If I don't anticipate running the ICE for a period, I will try and ensure that the majority of the fuel is E5. Subjectively, the car runs better on E5. When I do fill with E5, it is usually Tesco Momentum due to availability and the more reasonable price difference.
  14. My last 3 have been 45.2/43.4 (15 Nov), 45.5/43.7 (16 Nov) and 45.7/43.0 (23 Nov). Very similar to predictions throughout the whole of November, (45.5/43.2 on 1st Nov). Has to be seen in the context that I was getting 50+ in September (50.3/49.3 on 29 Sep) before the predictions unexplainably fell off a cliff after a long trip to Wales in October. I don't know what my actual distances are because I rarely travel all electric until it runs out; preferring to swap into HV mode for steady speed 'A' roads, dropping into EV mode for towns, and aiming to arrive home with as close to zero range left as I can manage.
  15. I share the understanding of the system as described by Colin and the doctor but why is it then that several people have had problems with the battery? It seems hard to identify the true cause of the drain. Can the battery really be drained so much by having the doors open during valeting or from having a dashcam live when the car is parked or from having the alarm triggered? Shouldnt there be some protection to prevent the battery from draining below a critical level? I can't believe there isn't. Some have had batteries replaced but quality assurance is pretty good these days so the number of genuinely faulty batteries seems high to me. Are they being replaced just because it's an easy thing to do?
  16. My model is on 18" wheels and the tyres are not run-flats. The car came supplied with 2 packs that seal and inflate the tyre should I have a puncture. I'm sure you could purchase these packs quite easily.
  17. Rotating the tyres at the prescribed intervals helps ensure that all 4 tyres wear at a similar rate and therefore need replacing at the same time.
  18. I have had an NX450h+ for just over a year now. I have a 22kw charger at home, which works fine and charges my car in about 2 and a half hours. Equally, I happily charge with the 'granny charger' overnight. I do have a Lexus charge card but never been anywhere to use it! I was going to give it up as it was costing £5 per month. However, they've just changed their pricing policy to a 3 tier system, including a free option for infrequent uses, so I'll keep the card for now. As it happens, I used a public charge point today (well a tesco one operated by PodPoint). What a frustrating experience. Download app (now got 4 such apps on my phone), register, add credit card, put money into account. Only then could I start charging, in the rain. Compare that with the 3 minutes to put petrol in my car, under cover, paying easily with my choice of cash, card or phone. No apps, no pre-loading an account. The industry has a very long way to go!
  19. Interesting question Stephen, and i agree with you. I can imagine though that the powers that be would find some wrinkle around it. I'm sure I've read of cases of people over the limit being arrested when walking to their cars with keys in hand, or getting into the passenger side of the car, being arrested and convicted under the drink driving laws even though they weren't actually driving. I don't think it will come to that though because we won't actually be able to buy ourselves a self-drive car, they will only be available from a pool. We will have to buy a monthly subscription to use them. There are already car clubs operating this model (with cars that you need to drive). My local one has 3 pricing options to choose from, depending on what access you want. They buy, service and insure the car. The club member only has to put in fuel and agree to return the car by the agreed time.
  20. Received an email from my insurance company today explaining the 100 reasons why my insurance was likely to be higher this time around. Given renewal is due next month, I think they are mentally preparing me for a big shock!
  21. Doesn't seem right to me. My 450h+ happily drives in ev mode at those temperatures. Is there anything else different going on?
  22. On 16th October I reported that my app predictions had fallen off a cliff, from around 50 to 45.0/44.1 following a long trip to Wales (not sure if that's significant! ). Since then I have been getting small, one or two tenths, improvements. Reached 46.0/44.1 last night. Not bad considering the colder, wetter weather. Strange thing is that despite the big 5 mile change in the app's predictions, the in-car dash prediction only dropped by a mile, two at most.
  23. You're worrying me. I had no problems with the original app, until my car was serviced last month. Since then I've had a few 'profile not synced' messages but not so many that I felt the need to complain. I had tried the new app but I got a message saying that my email address wasn’t recognised. Hence, I was happy to stick with the old app but today, like others, I got the message to upgrade. I've already gone one step backwards with the software and it sounds like I might go back several more very soon 😞
  24. I agree with your first paragraph Colin. I never experienced the trackerpad option so I can't comment on that. I do however find it ironic that the NX is laden with safety features and then fit a touch screen that I find difficult to use and a huge distraction. Minus 100 safety points in my opinion! Like Harry, I find talking to Lexus as troublesome as talking to my 90 year old mother when she's not wearing her hearing aid! Even if she understood better, I don't think it's conducive to safety or family harmony to tell my occupants to shut up whilst I repeat 3 or 4 times simple commands to do whatever. Bring back knobs, switches and dials for the basic functions is my vote for reduced stress levels and enhanced safety.
  25. I'm still on the original app because the new one won't recognise my account. Surprisingly, I have had 3 or 4 updates to the old app (on Android) since the release of the new app. The old app is working just fine, a few issues since the car was serviced at the end of August and various software upgrades on the car were done but no pattern and nothing to get too excited about (even though I've had more issues in the last 2 months than I had in the first 12 months of ownership).
