  1. Does anyone know of a good Toyota/ Lexus specialist in either Bournemouth area or Derby area? I work in Bournemouth and live near Burton-On-Trent. The nearest Lexus dealer's in Nottingham or Poole and i'd prefer a good specialist to a main dealer. I'm after a service and valve adjustments on my LS400. Any advice would be appreciated. :)
  2. A quality well tailored suit will always look better than an off the peg suit, in my opinion. I've seen people wear a Hugo boss suit and look like Don Johnson (That's bad) If you want to stand out you could always wear some nice white socks and some boat shoes with your plain black Boss suit :) . Sorry
  3. 3 Points, with 3 on the way maybe (i'm not sure who was driving so i'm gonna ask for the photograph to help me jog my memory) I can't remember which was one of us was in the Lex that day as we're always swapping our cars which we're both insured on . The other 3 points was 2 years ago on the Fireblade and was a "Safety" camera van in a 50 limit, which was always a 60 zone the previous 15 years at least. (My fault, familiarity breeds contempt I suppose) but i've noticed there are less speed limit signs than there used to be in areas around speed cameras. It's almost as if they want you to speed through their cash registers, I mean Safety cameras.
  4. It's a horrible thing to have to admit but I admire the French in that respect. If they don't like something they tear it up, whether it's parking meters or hippies. There, i've said it.
  5. Yeah that's true, they definitely have their limitations but they do advise about the burn-in in the manuals and no doubt LCD's will get the size they are still lacking. I saw an article where multiple LCD's were being joined together to make one big LCD display which was almost ready to go into production, that was last year but for now Plasma still has size and price on its side compared with LCD. That will change though due to all the R&D, no doubt. Here's some info. for anyone considering buying a Plasma TV. I found it on a website when I was looking for a Plasma/ LCD or projector setup. It's a bit long winded but good info. and he wasn't selling anything (usually a good sign). Misconception #1: Plasma TVs need to be "serviced," or have their plasma changed out, every couple years or so. Perhaps the only compelling thing about this idea is that it resonates with good auto maintenance know how. To many people, plasma displays are like cars: You know how to use them, but you don't know a whole lot about how they work. Which is surely how this Urban Legend gained its foothold in the popular imagination in the first place. It has certainly been utilized by any number of unscrupulous TV salespeople to push extended warranties on otherwise unknowing "marks" -- people who have already spent $5000 on a new TV and would have no compunction about shelling out another $250 more, provided it will help safeguard their investment. While purchasing some additional "insurance" against mechanical defects might be worthwhile, especially when you are buying something this expensive, using scare tactics to ring up extended-warranty sales is unethical. Not to mention bogus: The idea that the ionized gases inside plasma displays either need to be replenished periodically or can be refilled is patently untrue. You simply cannot change out these phosphors every 3,000 (viewing) miles. Nor would you want to, because this would require you to change its entire glass display element out. And most manufacturers will tell you that it's cheaper to replace an entire plasma unit that it is to replace its screen alone. Misconception #3: Plasma TVs are like shooting stars, brilliant but short-lived. It is difficult to say for sure how long a given plasma TV will last, but one thing is certain: Plasmas can (and generally do) last a decade, sometimes longer. The useful lifetime of a plasma display is calculated according to the amount of time it takes for the monitor to appear half as bright as it did the day you bought it. "Half-life" denotes the point at which manufacturers consider the picture on a given set to have dimmed enough to make a noticeable difference in picture quality and possibly merit replacement. The stated half-life of most plasma displays is around 30,000 hours -- that's 10 years worth of 8-hour viewing days!
  6. Yeah me too, maybe it was the same bloke. Was he trying to sell you an LCD TV at the time? :)
  7. Thats an urban legend mate, with normal use a modern generation Plasma should last 10 years at least, they don't need "charging" either.
  8. I've got a 42" LG. It's on the wall above the fireplace, although it came with a stand in case you wanted it on a table or on the floor. The picture quality is very good although for about a grand more i'd have to recommend the Panasonic Viera as the picture quality on them is excellent. I paid £1500 for mine and £100 to get it professionally installed. (Well worth the money) I personally think they are good as far as as pose and picture size goes but a good CRT TV is still sharper in my opinion.
  9. Sound advice, when I bought my plate it was £499 from DVLA all in, or £700ish from all the other agents for the exact same plate. The agents just buy them from DVLA and charge us an "admin fee" ( £200 for an envelope).
  10. Nearly every Lex i've seen lately has a private plate on (mine included) There are a lot of LEX ones but mine is personalised to me, rather than the car. I used to have ADZ 1949 on my Jag 5 years ago which was a cheapie as it's a northen irish plate but similar ADZ plates go for about 2K now. The cheap ones which cover the age and mean nothing look silly and cheap in my opinion (eg.ILZ****) If you get a LEX plate it will only look good on a lexus. Having said that once you get a lexus the only car you'll be buying will be another Lexus. :)
  11. I absolutely love my LS No other car I have been in gives me the same feeling. It's so effortless, so easy, almost too good. I love my LS :D :D :D
  12. Here here ! When they replaced the head gasket, if they indeed did, did they pressure test it afterwards? If the head gasket has been replaced the symptoms could be a crack in the block between cylinder head and oil/water channels. This could pressurize the water system and introduce water into the oil. I would also suspect there's an airlock in the cooling system as some of the guys have suggested. i would take it to another garage before these boys fleece you any more. This fault would have been diagnosed and fixed had the mechanics known what they were doing. Good luck mate.
  13. It's more down to where you live i think. I've just got fully comp for my wife and i on my LS400 for £480 with Admiral. Neither of us had any no claims as we've been overseas for 5 years. I'm 32 and my wife is 26, but we live in South Derbyshire. Can you register a car at someone elses house? (eg. family member in the country) not sure if thats legal but the wife got a BIG rebate when she changed addresses from Blacon, Cheshire to Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Just move

I agree. The car maybe designed to run on fully synthetic but if it hasn't been then the tolerances may be low enough to keep normal oil from being burnt but synthetic, especially 5W30 is thin enough to seep through the gaps. Do an oil change with some thicker oil and it should be OK. Bear in mind it'll take a while to burn off the oil which will is already in the exhaust pipe. Generally speaking it's best not to switch to fully synthetic thin oil if the car has been run on normal oil for a long period.Good luck. :)
  15. I'm not sure about the washer bottle mate but are you sure the handbrake one isn't the low brake pad warning light? I had that on my LS, so I changed the pads which made no difference. In the end I twisted the pad sensor wires together on the front and rear which were snapped. It's quite a common problem but costs nothing to fix, assuming your pads aren't actually worn.
  16. I know a traffic Policeman in Wiltshire Police who says the "Camera Safety Unit" have actually ordered an unmarked car, which is nice.
  17. Spot on! They always drive VW campers, maroon Renault's or beetles with smoke pi**ing out the back. Let's start a group to ban tree-huggers and rainbow coloured jumpers. The only people who should wear combat boots and Jackets are Soldiers. (They're being ironic!, aren't they clever?) The advert looks like a wind-up though. (It certainly wound me up) :tsktsk: I'm off to rev my bike up in the garage.
  18. I bought my first Lexus (a 94 LS400) off e-bay in December. It didn't need any work, just some TLC really. It looks and drives fantastic now. I paid cash but only after i'd seen the car and checked it was "as advertised". I know e-bay seems a dodgy place to buy a car but as long as you don't part with any money before you collect it you can always walk away if it's a nail. Some sellers want 20% after the auction but what if it's a shed when you get there? Or not there at all? The advice I received on this site helped me find a good MK2 LS as I was in a similar position to you. Good luck Declan.
  19. Welcome to the club. I hope you enjoy your LS as much as I enjoy mine. :) I've never seen one without leather, What kind of material is it?
  20. Come off it guys, that's what was said about the IS when that came out. Even the brand new big Merc's being churned out are poor quality compared to how they used to be. An IS isn't a big car but it's still luxurious. The images were well smart, especially the Maybach hearse. Now people with no taste can go out in style. ... and we are driving Toyota's! :D
  21. Do you get the Spiv and the Tranny thrown in with the car? I saw the photo's before I read your comments, that's got to be a bloke!
