  1. I'd go with Alpine mate. I've never had any problems with my Alpine gear. One of my best mates has worked in the Audio Installation industry for years and always recommends Alpine to me. He always has Alpine/ Rockford in his own cars too. I always had them in the early 90's then the quality went downhill a bit to appeal to the "Yoof's" but they seem to be back on track now.The switches on the early 90's ones were real nice quality and smooth whereas the later ones feel sharper and cheaper. Alpine are still way better than Pioneer/ Kenwood/Sony in my opinion.
  2. Surely the "no call" part is more relevant than not using blue lights. Doesn't that usually mean there's no emergency? I thought there were guidelines for when to use blues/ two's. I understand why police officers feel obliged to defend their comrades when they mess up, but the injustice and double standards suck. How can we be expected to abide by the laws when a lot of the police including high ranking officers are blatantly taking the :tsktsk: ? Slightly -At least 2 bikers have actually recieved 12 month-24 month custodial sentences in the last couple of years for speeding on their bikes. They were insured and legal but went silly speeds for a few seconds. The difference with a bike being you can be doing a ton in under 6 seconds.A custodial sentence is ridiculous when you consider the knock on effects to the family/ community/ country. No drivers are infallible, we all make mistakes and not all police drivers are trained in high speed pursuit driving. Only traffic units have the skill/ vehicles to control vehicles at speed and even they make mistakes.
  3. You'r definitely going to the right people for your plate (the DVLA) As far as the actual plates go be careful where u get them as the first place I got mine had MOTORMANIA and a postcode/telephone number stamped on the bottom in big black letters. When I refused to take them on the grounds they looked :tsktsk: I was told it's a legal requirement to have the info printed on them. Eventually I went to Hafords who also print their name on the plate but they do the writing the same colour as the plate so u don't notice it. It's worth asking the online retailer if the writing will be visible, so u don't waste your money. :winky:
  4. How about swapsies! mine's only 11 years old, just run in. Personally I think the newest LS can look pretty slab-sided and square and the interior isn't as stylish as it used to be. I think it actually looks a bit more plasticky when I sat in the new one a couple of weeks ago. That was grey with grey seats though so that probably made it worse, and 57K for a new one! You'd lose 20 grand in the first year or two.The LS is also more expensive now than the competition it was designed against (S-class,7 series,XJ jag) You can see why they don't sell well at first glance. Lexus should sort out the price when they bring out the new LS. I also sat in the new GS by the way, very nice but a bit small compared to what i'm used to.I preferred it to the old GS by a mile though.
  5. Have you put your bid in yet Niraj? You could chrome it and put some nice neons on it and some 38 inch wheels. Rinsin!
  6. What a :tsktsk: ! That's gross I nearly wrote "that's sick" but the youngsters reading this might think that's a good thing. It ain't.
  7. I've done 10,000 miles in my LS since Jan and it's averaged about 28MPG. Admittedly I use it on long runs mostly (380 miles yesterday to work and back) but I set the cruise at 80-85 as soon as i'm on the motorway and she just purrs along. I had a jag 3.6 straight 6 and I never got 20MPG in that thing in all the time I had it. I've seen loads of IS's on this site returning less miles to the gallon than my LS.
  8. :D :D :D :D I used to have 2 leaf insects but my nan came to stay and threw them in the garden 'cos she thought they were leaves. I can see why I suppose. I spent the whole summer holidays looking for them. I also bought some tortoises in Saudi for £5 each just because my villa mate wouldn't agree to me buying the crocodiles which were £20 each and were 6 inches long and cute as but would grow to 6 metres long. I also used to keep tropical fish (in my underpants)
  9. White XL please :) Thanks Adz
  10. Yeah you could, or you could do a better job yourself as the standard wires are :tsktsk:, or you'll be doing it again in a couple of years.
  11. I'm not sure about the LS430 but on the LS400 each caliper has it's own wear sensor. The problem tends to be the sensor wire on the actual caliper (they tend to just wear out/ break) If the wire is snapped just twist/ crimp the wires together to see if the light goes out. Incidentally 3 out of 4 of my car's wires were snapped and this cured the problem (after I had replaced the pads) It seems to be one of the very few weak points the LS suffers from.If you want to ensure it doesn't happen again put some rubber sleeving/ heatshrink on the wires so they don't break again.
  12. The LS is the quietest car I have ever been in. That's why Clarkson and his croanies always moans about the LS (They've missed the point). I think the GS is more of an exec. car whereas the LS was designed as a luxury car. The tyres do make a difference though, I replaced all 4 tyres on my LS for Pirelli P7's and it might be a smidge louder, maybe. I can still hear the leather seats creaking at 90MPH (On a private road) though if they need some Autoglym leather care action:D .
  13. Oh dear mate I think a Yaris is calling for her. My Mrs drives my LS sometimes and scares me ****less if she goes out for more than a few minutes in it.She phoned me recently and couldn't start it, the first question I asked was "Is the gearbox still in D?" "Yes" came the reply. I hung up. :tsktsk:
  14. I'm taking a photo, Quick pull your hats down!
  15. Check out flight international mate - www.flightinternational.co.uk I was made redundant from the RAF a few years ago along with the whole flight simulation trade so we were all looking for jobs at the same time so you should be OK on your own. I did the AMRAF computer coursefor resettlement which was cool as you got a PC out of it and some knowledge of PC's but i'm not sure if it's still going.. BAE are always looking for engine guys out in Saudi (gooood money) , but that's not for everyone. If you want to know more about it let me know I just spent a few years over there in Dhahran (Tornado). Sorry to hear about your situation but to be honest I think the only thing you'll miss about the RAF is the lads. Good luck though.
  16. Yeah there is, so i'm told Maybe she's had a s*x change and got a job selling sarnies :winky:
  17. Band of Brothers, especially after each episode when the real characters talk about what happened. Although it's 10- 1 hour episodes so not strictly "a film" Field of dreams as well, it's that old father/son thing again.
  18. They're wearing them to try and intimidate people and I think it should be deemed as threatening behaviour. The kids think it gives theem license to behave like thugs. The more the media go on about hoodies the more they'll wear them. We should all encourage our older friends/ relatives to wear them, then the kids won't be seen dead in the things.
  19. I'll see you about then mate, I moved to Swadlincote in November. :D
  20. They do that everywhere mate but I know where you mean and use it regularly myself as I live near there. They must thinks it really funny, on the CB talking :tsktsk: . What annoys me no end apart from everything listed so far is when I set my cruise control at 80 on the motorway, (I mean 70 Scarface) and some :tsktsk: comes past only to slow down in front of me 'cos their little car can't do 80 (70) up the hill. You're just cruising past at the top of the hill and they pick up speed and then it starts all over again. Also a lot of bikers race up behind, rev the granny out of their hairdryers go past and then hold me up after standing up and adjusting their leathers or weaving about pretending to warm their tyres up on the motorway like Valentino Rossi. I ride a bike and it 's :tsktsk: 's like that who make people dislike bikers. Aaaand relax...... :)
  21. Mate, I think Hitler outweighs Hendrix :zee: on the old good/ bad arguement.
  22. I'm not sure about left-hookers being genius's. Hitler was left handed and look at what he did He over-extended his supply lines and kept command authority to himself, rather than his commanders on the ground, fool! :D .........and as for that dodgy 'tache!..
