what about this dubious theory that COOKIES don't snoop and aren't harmful?

First sensible post. Rest are good fun but mostly patently ridiculous.

Favourite conspiracy theory; I quite like the "one of JFK'S bodyguards in the following car had his gun go off accidentally". At least it's possible to base that one on some kind of positive empirical evidence, rather than the "no real evidence but it sounds like fun", as much of the previously mentioned theories are.

Illuminati are quite interesting, but only in a self evident way; obviously power concentrates. Look at the Opus Dei, for example.

I doubt it given what they stand to loose. Who in their right mind will ever allow a commission to come out with, yeah she was pregnant, and oh by the way MI5 had her killed because of it!!?

I understand you scepticism Fidgits, but if you dig about there are loads of other bits of proof about places such as Menwith Hill etc. Public records will show certain planning things as well as things due to this etc. -ooops :P

Personnally, a lot of the conspiricies are a load of poooh, but there are some which are more about uncovering hidden or secret things.

Saw some of the experiment thingy, mainly the ones about the european parliment!!

the only thing i can think of that companies use them for statistics.. like spyware to see what your habits are on the net

I have never known cookies to be harmfull to me... if they wanna know where i shop then i dont really care

Or are you thinking the government are using them?

I would rip into the rip bill first before worrying about cookies

XP brings it up as a security warning if a site tries to establish a cooky - why would MS bother if it couldn't be of use to anyone?

and as for who's doing it, bloody everybody as far as i can see, and why would they bother if it wasn't for their benefit?

and just wait til the new ofweb dept issues electronic fines to anyone who visits a site with too much pink or tan expanse in the jpegs! (that one's a joke, at least until 2006 - we all thought CCTV speed fines would never get past parliament, and look where that's going with all the latest camera fines for motoring slips.) and if that's not a conspiracy then i don't know what is!

and who, or what, is the 'rip bill'?

here is some info on the rip bill

something to be concerned about.

Cookies are used for sessions.. our own sites use it... it allows you to remain logged in and it remembers you everytime.

Cookies are harmless... XP kicks a security warning as a cookie needs to place itself on your PC...

Dont know if anybody else has downloaded this but it scans for spyware on your computer lists it for you, then tells you what it has been put there for and tells you how harmful it is.

I have had some really nasty ones that try to copy personal details credit cards etc

Nice one steve :D

I wonder if all this stuff is required to protect the innocent against the guilty (should we be glad the authorities are doing this?) or is this a case of certain prophesies and warnings coming true (and even the innocent should be worried)?

Any views?
