Photo Under The Hood Insulation Cover Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Has anyone got a high res photo of what is hidden by the hood insulation cover on an RX 450?

I ask because I want to resolve a dribbly windshield washer problem. As it's only dribbly on one side, past threads suggest that the line into the washer is probably kinked, but the line seems to be behind the insulation. However the insulation board is quite thin so I don't want to damage it and it is held on with clips which are probably simple to remove but I'm not sure whether they are reusable. I don't want to go down this path if I'm not going to be able to resolve the problem this way.

You can see I'm not an expert! Any advice is valued.

Thanks,

PB

I don't have a photograph but looking at the exploded diagram it would appear to be attached by the usual plastic push in fixing, these can be removed carefully with fine long nose pliers under the cap and prise or a special trim removal tool available at car accessory shops, look like a forked screwdriver with a bend at the end for prising.

The clips are pretty tough and tend not to break but are available from amazon and the like.

If you want the diagram send me a PM with your email address.

Also, if attempting to "pop" them out, wait until they are warmed up after a run so the plastic isn't cold and brittle.

You could always order a couple of spare clips from Lexus for a couple of quid each and have them to hand before you attempt removing the lining!

Thank you Chris and Steve. I'll have a look at that diagram and see if it throws any light on the situation, and get one of those tools (thanks for the pic) when I get an opportunity.
