Oil Brands 5w30 & 10w60

Recommended Posts

Hello lads,

the winter over here is pretty cold so I have been using 5w30 for quite some time now. However the summer tends to get really hot as well so I have been thinking about trying some thicker oil like 10w60 next year. Has anyone run oil of this viscosity in their Fs ? Could you please share any experience on which brands of oil have you been most satisfied by in 5w30 and 10w60 ( if anyones has tried).

Cheers!

If it was me Danny I would check out the information in the handbook and see which viscosity is recommended for each operating temperature range and stick with that, I don't think you will go wrong with the manufacturers recommendations.

I do not think 10w60 oil is readily available in the UK, and the most viscose fully synthetic I have seen is 0w40 or 10w40. Higher viscose oils seem to be non synthetic. I run 0w20 year round in my GS450H.

Thanks for the quick replies. I dont live in the UK (10w40 is available over here) .The handbook does advise to use 5w30 all the time regardless of temperatures (better for cold starts) etc. Do you guys have any preferences of brands - mobil1, Castrol and so on ?
Cheers !!!

Below is the recommended oil grades for Lexus vehicles. Surprisingly the heaviest grade recommendation is 5w30, and many vehicles can use 5w20 or 0w20 grades.

I find the 0w20 oil in the GS450h almost eliminates the cold start rattle from the VVT mechanism as it circulates faster than the higher grades. This is very noticeable.

This is what I have been using for the last 20K miles. I change mine every 5K miles and its been okay ( a rare top up needed from time to time after " track days"). I might try the Mobil 1 or stick to this one as the quality of Castrol in Eastern Europe is terrible.
