Toyo Proxes T1-s

Hi all,

I've spent a long time on here tonight, going through almost two years of posts on tyre choices!! :geek:

I think I'm going to go for the Toyo's...

But first I'd like to ask all those who have fitted the Toyos, especially to IS200's (17" rims).

How long do they last? From the reviews I've read, it is their wear rate that is the biggest weakness. Can anyone confirm or argue this?

Many thanks.

p.s. If anyone can recommend a good tyre dealer in, or around the Herts, Beds & Bucks area, I would be very grateful! :winky:

My toyos have 15k on them with no discernable signs of wear.

the first set of potenzas I had lasted 20k.

the two fronts were scrubbed clear 7k after that.

13k after that, I needed another two fronts.

At this point I swapped to Toyos all round.

they are quieter than the standard potenzas too.

Granted - the low mileage on the potenzeas is (highly likely to be ) due to tracking problems with the car.

You should check this website TyreTest I recently bought 4 new tyres for my Lexus and I was going to buy the Toyo's myself. The tyre place told me they wear very very quick and he advised me to buy Hankook's Ventus Sport K104. He said they are the best for money tyre you can buy at the moment

Here are the stats for the Hankook

Average of 22 completed tests Ø2.2

Score: 1-best 6-worst

Grip in dry conditions 1.6

Braking in dry condtions 1.7

Grip in wet conditions 2.3

Braking in wet condition 2.5

Grip in snow 4.6

Comfort 2.3

Tyre noise (in car) 2.1

Tyre noise (external) 2.2

Tyre wear 2.5

Kilometers driven 339.280

Here are the stats for the Toyo

Average of 109 completed tests Ø2.7

Score: 1-best 6-worst

Grip in dry conditions 1.6

Braking in dry condtions 1.8

Grip in wet conditions 2.2

Braking in wet condition 2.4

Grip in snow 5.2

Comfort 3.3

Tyre noise (in car) 3.4

Tyre noise (external) 3.2

Tyre wear 4.2

Kilometers driven 2.411.085

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys.

I think I shall go for the Toyos.

I dont fancy being the first person to try a new tyre, ie Coullio's Hankook's. I've had Pirelli P6000's fitted to two cars before, on the 306 XSi, they were terrible, understeered all over the place, on the Mondeo Zetec they were fine! Just cos someone fitted the Hankook's to other cars and found them great, I wouldn't guarantee they would work as well on the Lexus. Just a thought!

Will still welcome any more comments on the Toyos durability!!

Steve

When I was running about 70mm lower than standard, my Toyos used to last beween 4000 and 6000 miles but this was due to the ammount of negative camber required to run the car this low. There is a good 4-5mm of tread on the outside, but I have been down to the braiding on numerous occaisions on the inner edge without knowing.

I have to say that they are, along with Goodyear Eagle F1's, the best gripping tyre in the dry I have ever tried.

I've just ordered the Toyo's after calling 7 of the dealers on their website.

Saxongate Motorist Centre of Biggleswade (01767 314125) can provide the T1-S 215/45x17 for £76.25 +VAT each!!!

Thats £179.19 all in for two!!!

I just hope they show the wheels some care! If they do, they've got my business next time already!!

I shall mention the club and ask if he is interested in offering us Goldies a discount!
