400 euro 135kms service ;-(

Recommended Posts

Morning Folks,

When do you think a good age for an older Lexus to stop going to the dealer for standard services ?

mine is a 2012 99k miles with a 90% service history (previous owner could not get to Lexus during the pandemic)

I am due the scheduled 135kms service and its 400 euro... not much involved oil, filter, cabin filter, check over and hybrid check

I think i will go to the major service with spark plugs and that will be that(800 euro).

I understand its a premium car with a premium service price tag, but seems its the most expensive dealer service around. my 2016 6 series was 200 euro for a BMW service as an example.

Shop around for a local specialist. They're normally competitive enough so it's worth it. As long as you service it every year and get the stamp, I don't think it matters whether it's Lexus or independent garage that does the servicing. 400EUR for oil n filters is a lot..

With a Lexus dealer you are paying for peace of mind that the job will be done properly and you have some recourse if that is not the case.

My experience of several independents (on a non Lexus vehicle) is not great, often coming back with new faults, oily interior and unbelievable excuses.

You're probably beyond the point of worrying about a Lexus warranty - even if you get Relax or an equivalent you're now going beyond the age limit.

If that's not an issue then a trusted indie sounds like the answer.

Do you have the Hybrid Health Checks? That can always be done separately to the servicing.

No, you're paying for all that nice showroom and putting more money in corporate coffers - they charge big just because they can.

You always have recourse at any reputable garage.

Then with the greatest of respect, you have either not done due diligence or you've just been unlucky. Whatever the business, be it a bakers or an electrician, a mechanic or a builder, word-of-mouth recommendation from friends and family will always bring up good businesses who work hard to keep their good reputations.

Clearly a basic service is very high margin product be that at a main dealer or independent.

Sounds like you have been more lucky than me...

When the car gets to about 7 years old.

+1. Even if mileage is moderate by this age the depreciation hits to an extent that dealer service history becomes a secondary factor when selling the car.

Also going to a dealer does not always guarantee higher quality.

Hi Ronan are you aware of the Lexus 10year plus extended warrenty, it covers cars up to 15 year old with less than 150000 miles.

It includes the Lexus roadside assistance, howevr you do have to have your car serviced by Lexus.

I don't know if it is available in Ireland
