Tyre Recommendations

I don't know the answer because I've never known anybody quote weight as a factor in buying tyres, only the size of said tyre.

Does he mean the load rating for the tyres? Which is an important factor in tyre choice, indeed must comply with manufacture's specification, at least as a minimum.

I went with Goodyear Eagle F1 SUV at £154 each. 255/55/20. I did a lot of research on comparison testing. Although I would have gone for the M CrossClimate's I considered these my best remaining option. They are M+S rated but that is not an all season tyre. So far they have been very impressive.

yes load rating, i know this is a heavy heavy car and i really dont want to under spec the load rating, also if lets say 105 us quoted which is 995 KGS what additional weight does the XL on a tyre add to that ?

What I meant was, the owners manual will list the tyre specs, along with a label in the car somewhere (driver's door jamb?) so as long as you stick to what it says there then that's as much as you need to know. Alternatively, you could go higher if you wanted but definitely not lower.

I have Continentals Conti 5s all around, probably the best tyre for UK weather. Absolutely stunning in the rain. Grip is immense. I've had Dunops before on my RX400h and also Bridgestones. Both are day and night comparing to Continentals. Michelins are up there too but a lot more expensive.

Have you considered 255 50 20.

looking at   http://willtheyfit.com they are very close in rolling radius and clearance seems similar to original equipment 235 55 20.

they will give a softer ride but may have a little more rolling resistance so affecting consumption slightly.

It is certainly opens up more available choices.

I replaced Bridgestone duellers that were sidewall cracking with Continentals ,The wet performance is confidence inspiring, hitting motorway standing water at speed doesn't upset the car at all
