NX300h 70 Plate windscreen reflection

Recommended Posts

Just exchanged 2012 RX450h for the NX. Clearly this is a different car but with an unexpected irritation.

The silver (metallic?) trim around the centre binnacle and above the glove box is reflected onto the windscreen according to variations in the external brightness/light/shadow.

The randomness is disconcerting. I'm tempted to paint it a dull black which is a shame for a nearly new car with only 16K on the clock.

Any other ideas and experiences  will be appreciated.

Thanks

I can imagine it could be different for different drivers as the seat position would be different, so angles of reflection would be different.

Rather than paint it why not simply cover with a peelable vinyl? See how it performs?

I witnessed it too Alan as soon as I drove my NX. For a car costing up to 50 Grand it is extremely poor design and manufacture. And now the 2nd Gen Nx has problems with its fuel flap !

Is Lexus hitting the buffers?

I will not hold back whenever I am invited to complete a questionnaire on Lexus products.

The Lexus hold on Reliability and Quality of Service is slipping and will soon be revealed.

It is not capable of being avoided in the manner you suggest Peter and it is not a target for a simple cover up using vinyl or similar.

The angle of the windscreen is instrumental in identifying the problem. There has been for a good number of years, a disconnect between Manufacturers, Ergonomics expert and Health and Safety Bodies in my view. , Reflections, Cup Holders, Computer Screens and Software all come to mind.

Must say I didn't notice any reflections when I had a loan NX for a week. I did in my RC, from the Power button of all things!

No Davey, not at all.

It could however have been better. They did not tell me about the initial 12 month Lexus Warranty nor about the Lexus Roadside Assistance which I have for 12 months alongside. And I had to request documentation in respect of each.

Nor did they explain the Relax Warranty System to me. They could have been more helpful in assisting me to obtain the complete Owners Handbook. It is only available on line and cannot be searched I was told, so tough Mr Williams. was the message to me.

But I consider myself to be reasonably well informed about matters motoring and Lexus in particular and they picked that knowledge up pretty quickly in talking with me.They were personable, pleasant and courteous. There were no flowers for the wife, but I did receive a full tank of E10 They will come to my home and collect and return the car for Servicing.

I could not award 10/10,but they were not below 8/10 in my book. The car is fine and well equipped.

John, I see that the recent refresh of the NX includes a major change to the interior.  The driver is faced with a much more vertical design to the dash and the bling trim around the fascia has gone. Perhaps someone noticed? A.

I didn't know you had an NX John, thought you had the GS and the Mercedes?

Hi Jeff.

We sold our villa in Andalusia in August which meant I no longer had need for the 20 year old 260,000 mile Merc. I gifted that to the local Indy who had looked after it for me for the past 10 years and he will probably use it as a Courtesy Car.

The GS 450h, I still have and will probably advertise it on this Forum once I have been able to take some suitable photos. It is a July 2010 Reg`n,FLSH and one previous ownwer and 67,000 miles. It is probably too fast for me now as I approach 77 and it is getting more difficult for Mrs Roy and me to get in and out of. It can still be warranted until 2025.

The most suitable replacement we found was the NX from Lexus Liverpool with 3years old and 13,000 miles on the clock. I did look around Lexus Chester but they only had a very limited stock at the time. We find the NX to be easier to get in and out of. It sits higher off the ground and is well equipped.

Best wishes.

Brilliant, I assume you're happy with it (daft question). The NX is what I'll probably change to at some point, as like you I would like the higher driving position and ease of access etc. We are starting to notice minor difficulty when getting into the GS300, we've both just turned 75, but the time will come when it's too difficult and then it will be time to change. I've been looking at prices for year 2018 onwards and they have risen quite a lot in the last 12/18 months or so. I wonder if they'll fall back at all? Apparently all to do with shortage of computer chips for new cars, but you know that of course. The Luxury seems a good spec but would be nice to get the spec that has the memory settings for the driver's seat which I have on the GS, but can't have everything. I was surprised to read this week that MPG isn't that great on the NX. I get about 24MPG locally and about 34MPG on long runs with the GS300. Was hoping to improve on that with the NX. However the RFL will be a lot lower than the GS300.

I have not been disappointed by the change to the NX. The big difference you will notice is the tech available. Reasonable Road Fund License (£155) can't comment on economy yet. A firmer ride than my RX400h but not uncomfortable - though not in the same league as the LS400!
