IS300h Start button can take 4 or 5 presses to start car

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 2013 IS300h and for a while now I have been putting up with the car taking up to 5 presses of the start button to turn the car on.

I have tried a new Battery in the key (I only have one key, so cannot try another) but it didn’t help any.

Has anyone else managed to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance,

You were right to try changing the fob Battery, which immediately solved a similar starting problem I once had, also, as it happens, with an IS300h. And, as you say, the need for a new Battery would have been made clear one way or the other by using a second key.  I think you are going to need to visit a Lexus dealer or an electronics specialist, but, before you do, I would check to see if your fob is perfectly clean with everything tight and in place inside and out.

The Battery is not one you can pick up and do yourself from Halfords. The going rate from Lexus is about £250.

My wife had a similar issue in her Jazz where the key was not always detected and it could take a few presses to start. The start button was replaced out of warranty free of charge as a technical bulletin had been raised for faulty start stop button.

I changed my 12v Battery last week as i was getting random warning lights and car not unlocking. The voltage had dropped to 11.4v ,the temperature has not been above 6c for over a month.

Fitting the Battery was quite easy and there are many videos on you tube if you are unsure,i found a longer 10mm socket fitted every nut.

I got the replacement Battery from Lexus Parts Direct by mail order the next day mine cost £139 + £6 delivery.
