Teyes CC3 Android Head Unit

Recommended Posts

Having installed my Teyes CC3 Android Head Unit about 9 months ago, I thought i'd create a dedicated thread on the Teyes CC3. I've been posting and replying to questions about it on a another thread created by @McShmoopy  that can be found here:

I've installed this on my own 2006 IS250 with factory nav and ML. Teyes call this option the Model B. I've also installed it for a few people on the late models that have USB music playing options from the factory. Teyes calls this the Model A. Just to clarify, the Head Units themselves are the same between Model A and B. The difference is that they supply a different wiring loom/harness as the two models of cars have completely different wiring layout.

After 9 months of use, my personal opinion on this is that it's a fantastic kit. There are loads of other unbranded chinese units you can get but none of them compare to the build quality of this. I've installed a few unbranded ones. Most importantly the UI on the other chinese ones are in my opinion utterly rubbish. They give you a mediocre launcher UI and everything else they don't touch and so the user experience is somewhat spoilt with the constant change of UI and themes. Teyes on the other hand have completely created an entire OS skin with their theme. So you won't find any section without the Teyes UI theme. Which I think is fantastic. And finally, I've installed a good few unbranded chinese units on many different car models over the years and once you install it, it's very rare that you will get full software updates with useful new features. Having owned Teyes for 9 months. I've recieved 3 updates with nice new features. I think a lot of the chinese unbranded stuff you have to just buy and leave it as it is without any hope for support in the future.

Below i've attached some photos of the installation and finished product on my 2006 IS250.

A few things worth mentioning if anyone planning to get this system

  1. The Model B installation is a lot simpler. Just remove old and install new. The Model A is a lot more challening as it involves dismantling your original upper screen and just keeping the processing unit. This unit has to be kept behind the screen while installing this new head unit. So the room behind is a bit of a challenge. But if you do it right, there is plenty of space.
  2. On the Model B the reverse cam is supposed to be plug and play just requiring the setting to be turned on. But on model A, if you want to use OEM reverse camera, you have to locate the camera wires and de-pin and wire it to the Teyes. I personally wasn't bothered about the OEM reverse camera because I wanted to upgrade to AHD reverse camera as I found the OEM one to be poor quality.
  3. The frame itself is not made by Teyes, they are made by companies that specialise in this and supply to other Head Unit manufacturers too. And they only have LHD versions of this frame. Meaning the Drivers and Passenger temperature controls are wrong way round. I've managed to fix this by reverse engineering the PCB and swapping out some resistos to flip it around.
  4. If anyone thinking to buy this, please make sure the seller that you buy from packages the metal frame properly and bubble wraps the actual frame with lots of layers to keep the metal seperate from the plastic frame. The amount of people i've seen receive this with the metal frame scratching the hell out of the frame is shocking. Just poor packaging. Since I mentioned it to people, it appears they take extra care.

I've also done a few mods and tweaks on the unit, which are as follows:

  1. Carbon hydrodipped the frame to match my OEM unit that I had previously done.
  2. Upgraded backlight LED's to white to match my OEM unit that I had previously done.
  3. Wired the Steering wheel voice button to activate Siri (CarPlay) or Google Assistant (AndroidAuto) - Video demo can be found here:

  4. I customised the boot animation with my own custom made one. Video demo here:

  5. A video demo of my LHD to RHD temperature buttons can be found here:

Below are some photos.

Great review on the Teyes CC3. I am thinking of ordering one for my 2006 is250 with factory nav and ML. How long did it take for you to recieve it and did you order it from the teyes uk website?

I ordered it from a Teyes wholesaler on AliBaba with FedEx delivery from China and it came in 5 days.

Just FYI, the teyes UK website is just a front. The product is usually shipped from Australia or China warehouse

You need Model B.

if you buy from aliexpress the taxes are usually included. I just asked the seller to declare value at 30USD and there was no import charges

Yes still waiting. Have fitted the new camera now and it is working. When I first fitted it the active lines worked now they have stopped.

There is a setting somewhere which might have accidentally turned off. Also could be the camera itself. Some cameras have lines which I usually disable and then enable the Teyes dynamic lines instead.

I’ll have a look over the next few days in the settings to find where it is and reply back.

Ok thanks. It goes from bad to worse. Fitted the external mic, and took out the board with the internal one on ( it only seems to have the mic, illumination for the touch screen switches and reset switch on) The external mic doesn't work. I had a spare mic so tried that, still nothing so re-fitted the original internal one and tried again. The external one is doing nothing. 2 days later the air con disappeared from the screen. Fan still works on the buttons but can't see what the settings are. Teyes are not much good on getting back to you, still waiting on them. Thinking of taking it out and sending it back. It seems more trouble than its worth. I have had the unit out about 10 times now to check connections etc. I think there may be a problem with the can interface as before I fitted the Ahd camera when selecting reverse the screen wasn't changing.

Thats very odd. Ive been installing chinese unbranded head units on all makes of cars for many years never had these sort of problems.  On the IS250 i've installed the Teyes on mine and had it for nearly 1 year and i've also done over 10 installations for people and never had these issues. Where i experience issues was helping people who had installed it themselves and due to installation misunderstandings and errors having some issues here and there and all of those were resolved. So even with those, the are all working well. I've never had to go back 10 times to look at an installation lol.

Ok. After Teyes finally got back to me to sort out the problems. The active parking lines are now working but only by connecting the obd connector up which has also given me the doors open symbol on the screen. Apparently I updated the apps on the unit and it updated the car info one with vesta, that is why the a/c controls weren't showing on the screen. As far as the mic is concerned they sent me an app to install which then gives you the option to turn the external.mic on, I previously didn't have this setting on the system, and now the external mic works fine. The setting is under Factory, and is at the very bottom. If you dont have this i have attached the apk they sent me. With this setting they say you don't have to disconnect the internal mic.

Hello, I bought my screen on Aliexpress and the first thing is that the integrated microphone does not work well. The second thing is that after 3 months the screen broke down. They told me to send it to them and they would refund my money. I sent it, they have received it and they do not return my money. BEWARE OF THESE SCREENS, and BEWARE OF ALIEXPRESS.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!!! He told me that he was going to return my money in 15 days and he has stopped responding to my messages. €600 thrown away.
the seller is called Wisdomtrip NAVI Store

Hi.  I have to say that finding a Android unit with CarPlay is a nightmare, and through no cause of any of the manufacturer's suppliers.

Impressed with my IS220d I upgraded 2013 to a IS200d with every option fitted. I am happy with the car except for 1 new injector at 65,000 miles and 4 new injectors at 80,000 miles.

To Android and Teyes.  Teyes certainly have the best head unit.  I feel sorry for them though.

Lexusahave used so many different combinations of head unit, ensuring the correct unit is supplied is ........ So. Depending on whether you have the factory fitted sat/nav or not, the sat/nav with fibre optic reversing camera.  Then there's the version with fibre optic air/con.  And even then there are additional permutations where you have a Mark Levenson audio unit.  It is a friggin nightmare.

Most suppliers ask you to look at the air/con screen and send them a photos so they can determine the correct model.

Your model choice can also depend on the age of your Lexus.  Earlier versions with sat/nav are different to later versions.  Look for the raised buttons either side of your display screen. That's the older version.  Later have flat smooth buttons.  And then there's a whole raft of alternative going on behind the scenes.

Teyes asked the same.  Show us your air.con display. They told me Version A was the correct choice.  WRONG!

My best advice is carefully remove you existing unit, and take photographs of the complete rear showing ALL the connection ports.  I have even included the factory labels.

Go check out the photo's the manufacturers show on the websites.  The number of permutations!  This is why best to send YOUR photo's first.  Good luck.

Really p'eed off right now as unit arrived, can't install because wiring wrong and Teyes currently trying to figure out my wiring harness.

Look at my photo's and then check out the different websites to give you an idea of how many versions there are that Lexus has fitted.

Hi. Did you loose the Auto Air Recirculation mode? Any links to how you switched the temperature controls around and how you wired the steering wheel switch control to Google Assistant/Siri?

Hey Guys,
My 2006 IS 350 with Nav / Built in heater controls / ML amp had the amp go out last week. I emailed T’Eyes a few images of the back of my radio for them to confirm which model I need. Still waiting for a reply. I want to bypass the ML amp all together, since it’s fried, but can’t tell from the images if there are RCA outputs for a 4 channel amp and a 2 channel sub amp. I see an optical and 1 coaxial but I want to run 2 separate amps.

Let me know what you think.
thank you,

 John

From what I can tell mate the Teyes wouldn't bypass the factory amp but tap into it, this is because whenever we access the new head units we have a factory amp settings type app to adjust the OEM settings, so if youre looking to get any Lexus android head unit youll likely need the factory amp, these can be gotten fairly easy from breakers however

2011 Lexus IS250 Teyes CC3 2K - Volume Failure

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice on the following:

Install instructions I followed as as per:

https://www.teyes.com.au/pages/b-harness-lexus-is250-xe20-2005-2013-f1

https://drive.google.com/file/d/19Uw6Ah-NTFEXOR14YaVHbJ3IS5-euCgC/view

Hi all. I installed the Teyes on 29/06/2023 and the unit functioned perfectly for 8 months until suddenly, the PWR.VOL button stopped turning the car speakers on (and the respective vol icon ceased to appear on the screen). I've attempted to illustrate in the image attached.

I also note that the fascia buttons no longer make the beeping sound when pressed. Everything else seems to be functioning as it was before (albeit without sound) Steering wheel and fascia buttons activate the functions on the Teyes and Display.

* I also note another strange occurrence in the last couple days in that the a/c display on the Teyes screen randomly appears and disappears from time to time without any buttons being pressed.

Troubleshooting to date:

1. Factory restart

2. Disconnect car Battery

3. Checked all fuses

4. Replaced existing amp with 2nd hand factory pioneer amplifier

5. Pulled out unit and checked all connectionsimage.thumb.png.f2588e420e0d9f1e5922129a7cac169d.png

Try going to Vehicle settings app, then Car Radio then select a factory Radio channel and see if that kick starts the audio. By going to vehicle settings app the going to radio or even cd player, you are bypassing the teyes completely and trying to play through the oem lower unit. If this plays then it’s on the teyes. If it does play, then close that app by swipe up then try teyes audio again

Oh and regarding this, it’s normal. You probably just didn’t notice it before. This is the reason I am making my own climate control app for the Teyes. The reason the popup appears is because you have the climate control set to AUTO and in this mode the car is making small adjustments like fan speed and flow direction. These adjustments that the car is making automatically isn’t being done by you but essentially the app is listening for these changes as it cannot determine difference between the car making the change or you making it. So it thinks you changed a setting and hence shows the popup

Hello members. I have a question about headunit. Can you retain the ml. Or stock audio settings. I like being able to use the ml dsp for driver etc on the ml. Is there an app I can still do this not to mess the ml system up.

Yes the Teyes CC3 retains the original DSP for the mark Levinson system, there is an additional DSP that can be used to customise the audio further but if left alone it remains like stock. You are advised before making the swap to the TEYES to set your EQ and audio levels on the OEM system however you usually can access the OEM DSP settings via an app on most android units
