Scams ...

Recommended Posts

Would like to come back to Lexus - had 10 years ownership of IS's and sold last 250 a few years ago. I have been looking and just happened to check through FB Marketplace (wouldn't normally look through that) but there are a few NX / UX models ranging between 2018 to 2019 at really cheap prices under £9000 with relatively low mileages so its got me thinking too good to be true. But thinking on the other have are people getting rid of these types of cars now for smaller ones .... all large engines, 2.5, V6 etc so not sure if people are getting rid of these for smaller engined cars but suspect they are scams?

2.5l NX's are in high demand on the used market, second fastest selling car (NX350h) and used 2018-19 models with 20k miles should fetch around 24k+ about 29k ish for a takumi, you couldn't buy a 2019 hybrid yaris for 9k with 20k miles on it. Report to FB, if you want, to stop people from getting scammed. or it could be 9k deposit- finance rest sort of thing. Or some sites not sure how fb mplace works charge listing based on value on car, so these lot put the real price in the description. Stick to Autotrader and reputable dealers, always HPI check, if you are paying a deposit, only pay with a credit card (the deposit, if everything checks out), any one not allowing credit card (retailers) are probably best to stay away from  Stay safe out there! Theres a lot of these scams

including (whilst this is a re-enactment, i'm sure scams along these lines do happen)

There’s scams everywhere, my wife wanted a couple of dresses from a British company and see them advertised on Facebook never noticed the extra S on the name of the company, ordered them but a ring turned up 3 weeks later value $3 luckily paid on credit card so got money back eventually.

Yes - there are a lot of scams on FB market place... At some point I tried reporting them but it seems FB does not care as I can see same people posting same scams over and over again. Even the ones I have reported were not removed. I actually tried to contact some of them to figure out what is their plan, but never got back any response. I would assume they would ask for deposit of £100-£500 to be transferred to paypal or maybe an apple gif voucher to "secure the deal, because I have 100 people coming to look at the car today"... I can't imagine any other way they can benefit from it.

But typical story goes - there is a car which is clearly listed at half of the normal price e.g. IS300h F-Sport for £5400 or NX300h for £11,000... exact same users usually have like 10 cars listed, usually more premium cars like BMW, Audi, MB etc.

I think saying - "what is too good to be true..." remains relevant here.
