Bring back the IS to UK market

Dead right. Apparently Lexus think we don't deserve them and won't buy enough to warrant supplying them anyway.

Just my two pennysworth - there is no new Lexus vehicle that I find attractive now that the petrol IS is gone in the UK - Maybe go back to VOLVO but they re pulling out of non-EV cars as well. I will probably just have to keep my old fashioned ICE vehicles - lovely jubbly.

I see this with most car manufacturers these days. Their entry level cars are a disfigured "SUV" they're killing off all the sedans and compact hatchbacks and pushing these ugly small SUVs.

But to be fair its probably what most of the market wants. Most people arent car enthusiasts they want a functional comfortable car and dont care so much about "sportiness". Despite me choosing an IS because personally i like sedans and i like reliablity more. I see the impracticality everytime i try strapping my kid to the child seat and her head hits the ceiling when getting her in. At those times i feel like a taller car would make sense.

Also while i love the IS for what it is. It honestly isnt the best sporty compact sedan out there and those looking for a compact sporty sedan probably buy BMWs

Until you get bored of BMWs - which I did after quite a few that all seemed to start blending to be the same car even after new models were launched and wanted something left field and so chose the IS 300h which was different enough to be interesting and kept me interested such that I have no idea what to change to - so will keep it soldiering in for a while longer yet.

I’m afraid Volvo has also dropped all saloons and estates in the UK over the last few years - just SUVs and “crossovers” in their range here now!

By the time im done with the IS - probably 3 years from now. I will mostly look for a GS450h or maybe the GS300h - premier depending on what i feel like then. Hopefully they will be quite reasonably priced by then. The 450h is more expensive to run and maintain but hear its a great blend of luxury and sportiness.

I really want to know what the next model will be, considering they have an SUV/crossover for basically every size car (that the UK could want).

Surprised that the LM came to the UK market. Checking the new registrations for those will be interesting over the coming years…

For IS owners, would you consider the ES? Assuming the CANBUS problems are fixed in the future?

Just my opinion but generally speaking i think the IS is very sports oriented and IS owners typically tend to appreciate those sporty aspects like the driving dynamics & rear wheel drive of the IS. The ES on the other hand is more of a luxury saloon, more comfort oriented and hence some IS owners might miss the sporty feel if they switch to a FWD ES.

The GS on the other hand was meant to be a sports sedan competing with the 5 series. I have even watched reviews comparing its driving dynamics to the porsche panamera. Also, the IS is based on the GS platform but the GS was a larger more luxurious sedan in the lexus line up and offers a good blend of luxury and sportiness and hence I would argue would be a better choice for an IS owner looking for something more luxury but without compromisingon driving dynamics. That being said there are definite advantages to picking the ES over the GS depending on what one is looking for. For example the ES is a more modern car and provides a more refined driving experience.

No - IMHO the ES is a totally different proposition to the IS - I'm simply keeping my IS for the foreseeable future and see what happens in the car market in the meantime. Lexus had lost the Dale of at least one new IS from me and soon could have been two.

The ES is a plausible upgrade..  but it still feels like marmite... I cannot decide if I like it or loath it.

It's certainly a much bigger upgrade if you have kids to cart about.

Another sticky point is the price, there still expensive even for used.

The GS like the IS gas gone the way of the dodo ☹️

I am keeping mine too. It ticks all the boxes for me.  Being an old fashioned engine enthusiast there is one word that sums up the most desirable feature of a car ( or motorbike ) for me and that is - Grunt!  No references to neanderthal types please.😼

I would maybe consider it, if the CANbus thing is fixed properly.... BUT I still think that the ES would be too large for me (small UK streets and car parks). I would probably end up going for the newest Civic.

In the US, the ES makes more sense than here.

I agree...i wonder how people with SUVs manage daily driving. Everytime we go to the supermarket i see people with SUVs struggling to park between 2 cars. It always seems to be a tight fit. At times even the IS feels long and sticks out of parking spaces. For supermarket trips or around the city we always use the wifes jazz - its got all the features youd expect in a city car like dents, scratches, curbed wheels etc. Enough for me to not care if there is small new damage that doesnt impede its running.

A Lexus NX is actually 5mm shorter than your IS generation (4665mm). Width wise, the NX is 55mm wider (1865mm) - which is noticeable (but also the same width as a new ES). The LBX is also slightly wider than the IS (1810mm) at 1825mm wide, and much shorter at 4190mm, similarly is the UX at 4495mm.

if I had to park on the street or/and lived in inner London, there’s no way I’d have the car I do now. But I don’t, so I can little it a little large 🙂

Most recent Lexus cars for last several years have a canbus vulnerability- a £2k device, disguised as a Bluetooth speaker, allows thieves to unlock and start a Toyota and Lexus vehicle without any keys: https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

Lexus became the most stolen car brand in UK 2023 (as a percentage of cars on the road), with more Lexus stolen than Land Rovers…

So much so that people are actively avoiding cars like the RX as insurance prices on those are crazy. I seen a forum post from a member where his RX got stolen so he bought another one and the insurance companies wanted £5k to insure this one.

However now Lexus have a solution for the RX and said that for other models a solution would be available by end of April. Would be interesting to see what they come up with as the issue is unencrypted communication between modules on the CANbus

I'm thinking the same way as you, the ES is ridiculous for car parks as are all SUV's (which i don't like even Lexus ones).  I test drove a Civic hybrid the other day and WOW!!!!!  Practical size, brilliant dash / layout of controls and what a fantastic transmission / drive train!!!  It really shifts and feels / drives like a regular auto in sport mode... was extremely impressed with it.

Same here... if money would be no object I may enjoy RX500 + LC500 combo... but money kind of being an object and only having to choose one car to live with I can't see any Lexus in the current line-up that would be both practical, non-SUV and somewhat enjoyable to drive.

My thoughts exactly as seen in my previous posts on this page. I will either stick with the IS cars that I have or find an ICE non electric alternative elsewhere, if they will still exist in a few years time. I just hope the isF has another 10 yrs left in it, if so it will outlast me.😉

Oh that issue!

Funny how Toyota loves to encrypt the ECU so you can not really tune the car but love leave canbus wide open
