Rattling Brake Sliders RX400h 2006

Featured Replies

Hi, I’ve been hearing a rattle from the rear and Ive confirmed its my rear brakes… the Slider pins have play in the carrier/caliper bracket.
it’s seems simple to do but can anyone confirm if:

I change the pins only?

carrier/bracket only?

both?

I’m not sure which part it getting worn or if it’s normal practice to do both regardless.

Basically I don’t want to fix what isn’t broke.

thank you

Paul

Have you checked it's not the dust shields, they often rattle as they tend to rust around the fixing bolts.

Thanks but it the rattle is definitely coming from the slider pins/carrier. Not the shields. I can waggle the carrier, recreating the sound I hear.
shield is ok.

I would replace just the slider pins first and see if this sorts the issue.

Grease is important and opinions differ on which to use but I have been using RRG (Red Rubber Grease) for years which seems to do the job. Only a thin smear is required.

Part number in picture although I suspect the price is wrong!

Just looking at listings for the part and noticed some are just the pin and some are kits with a bush - on seeing this it seems my problem is the absence of the bush on the end of the upper one. Perished I guess.
does the genuine part generally come with the bush too?

https://ebay.us/m/WeXj2B As with this kit… the bush is there for sitting on the narrow bit of the pin it seems.

On this parts list shared by Steve2006, I can see 47769 33020 which seems to be the part needed.
When I search it I only get hits describing it as for the front brake slide pins.
I guess it’s compatible with the rear as well and will fit part 47814 48050? That is certainly suggested in the parts list above.

There is no bush on the upper pin. Bush comes separately from the pin if ordering from Lexus, hence they are listed as separate parts. Pin 2 is the one that has the indentation to accept the bush, pin 1 is the upper one without indentation.
