Outdoor car cover recommendations

Featured Replies

As per title, can anyone recommend a cover that protects the bodywork and doesn’t blow around in the wind and scratch it?

Don’t suppose you have a link as the search is coming up with anything

I’m afraid I don’t but there must be others here that can point you in the right direction

Ive never needed a car cover so didn’t have the interest to study it BUT I do remember there was discourse here about the subject

Maybe one of the Mods will come forward

Steve2006 do you know the link ?

I've had one for about 7 years now, it was expensive but is made of one these smart fabrics very light and very good. In the morning I'll check its name and forward it to you. I advise using the tie points to just keep it from inflating in high winds.

Are you going to wash and dry your car before putting on a cover ? If not, don't use one.  I wouldn't let a loose cover anywhere near my car !

Any loose cover, regardless of how expensive and what material it's made of will move in the wind and will abrade the paint, especially if the paint isn't clean.  If a cover is put on over a damp car, it will hold damp on the car and delay/prevent the natural drying processs.

Exceptions are inflatable covers  and the hooped type that don't touch the car bodywork. It's even recommended that a wet car is not parked in a garage, better under a carport so air can easily circulate around it.

Maybe consider a good ceramic or graphene coating that will protectect the paintwork without any covering.

Are you selling it

The one I have had is a Weathershield HD an American product

Your paint work will fair better WITHOUT a car cover, i had a RCF for over 5 yrs and tried different covers

each one from cheap and cheerful to expensive wow looking ones, cost me hours in detailing and wax n polishes due to dust getting under and the friction basically like light sandpaper ……  i bought one which was 4 layered with soft underside water proof breathable etc etc and had extra tie downs which when tied down even covered  1/2 of the underside(I WAS WRONG)….. but dust will still get under and the wind will still inflate and make cover rub….. car covers are only good for keeping dust of cars in a garage just my opinion but with 1st hand experience ….. only times i would put a cover on my car was when i used to leave it at works yard for 2weeks as gulls targeted the shiniest car in car park MINE but id prefer light scratching from cover than multiple gull bombardments or them river dancing with there webbed claws all over bodywork 🤦🏼‍♂️

I eventually bought a property with a double garage and a big lock up to solve the problems of needing a car cover ….BIT EXTREME 😜 but no need for car covers now 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, to be honest that was my concern hence the original question to the forum. I have a garage so maybe I’ll just keep it in there during bad weather
