MCR said that they can roll the arches - but it would mean having to have the wings resprayed again!

They have just been done!

Just got off the phone to a friend of mine that got the arches rolled on his Pulsar and Integra a few months ago. It took him ages to find somewhere to get them professioanlly done from.

He ended up going to Bradford to get them done - hopefully he can remember the number of the place he got it done from!

My mate also said that it is bull**** that I would have to get the wings repainted. Apparently the machine they use is VERY expensive so only a few place can do it properly.

UPDATE! Finally found a place to get the arches rolled. :D

I went today to a place in Hyde called Stewart Wilson Tyres. They are a performance specialist and actually designed the spoiler on my car FOR Toyota/Lexus! They fit/design bodykits for Ford, Vauxhall and Toyota! They are rated as one of the top 50 tyre fitters in the UK.

Stewart Wilson have really expensive equipment and said that most tyre fitters struggle to properly balance tyres above 16” because the machinery is not really designed for it – this place can deal with tyres up to 24”!!! They found that my front tyres were out by 15 (which explains a vibration I was experiencing at 60mph.

They were really friendly – even drove me to the cash machine to get some money! ;)

They have rolled the rear arches back and **HOPEFULLY** it stops the problem. If it doesn’t then I am going to have to get the mounting surface of the alloys machined off by a few mm to make the tyres the proper offset. The problem with this is that I will be without wheels while the work is done!! I would need some temporary ones while the alloys are getting sorted out – but hopefully it doesn’t come to that!

When they rolled the arches they did slightly crack the paintwork on the arches – but it is only VERY slight and on the underside (inside the arch) so it cannot be seen! Phew!

Will need to test it now with a few heavy people in the back seat!

Thanks for all the help (especially Gord ) ) - Hopefully this is the end of the saga!

I was chatting to them today.

Yep, they moved recently to a new industrial estate.

Their new address is:

Stewart Wilson Tyres Ltd

Fromac Works,

Junction St,

Hyde,

Cheshire

SK14 4QN

Tel: 0161 339 3173

I think I am going to go there to get my new tyres fitted and balanced when I eventually get them. At least I know they will do a good job.

Thanks Again Gord :),

  • 1 month later...

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but was rolling the arches enough? Or did you have your wheels machined to a bigger offset?

In December I also tried on ET40 rims with 225 tyres on a TTE lowered setup, and the tyres would just touch the rear arches (which were not rolled). I think ET45 would just have cleared them, and BTW, ET50 is standard.

Cheers,

Hi,

Well I have been meaning to update this thread.

Having the arches rolled did make a difference. It was alot better. But it is still not pefect. I am just waiting for a friend to sort out getting the alloys machined down. The trouble with getting them machined is that according to an enginer I can not get more then 3mm taken off the alloys safely - otherwise it could weaken the alloys.

This means that once done I would have an offset of 41 (38-3) which along with the rolled aches should hopefully be ok.

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you do get the arches rolled is to make sure you apply some rust protection incase your paint cracks under the arches. I didn't do this straightaway and it has now started to rust behind the arches. Again have to get this sorted out.

I do have a spare set of badges if your interested Blueman. PM me if interested. They are for the IS300 like mine but you can always get a "200" badge.
