Vibration in gearstick

Mines a 2001 Y IS200 Sport.

Does anyone get a vibrating/high speed clicking noise that comes from the gearstick. I notice it at certain speeds in 5th and third. They changed the gearstick gator a few months ago but its still there. Its not too loud but is not the gator, its metal on metal I think. Any ideas/experiences?

I thought I was going mad but I get the same clicking / rattle it does sound like metal on metal but only occurs in 1st 3rd and 5th gear!!:?:

i get a tickety- tick noise but i have found it is the outside of the gaiter rubbing slightly on itself - hold the gaiter near the bottom when it starts and it should stop.

the gearstick does shake around a fair bit though as well.

Tried holding the gaitor on the way home and it still occurs?

Any other ideas people?

mmm strange that it only occurs with the gear stick in the forward position -ie 1st 3rd and 5th

Okay last night I took the missus out in the car and got some really strange looks. As I was driving around I got her to lean down and listen around the gear stick to see where the noise is coming from, she is unable to tell whether it came from the dash or the gaitor?!?

I'm due for the 10k service now so i'm going to get Lexus Oxford to check it out.

I can't imagine what the other drivers thought was going on:lol:

Well took it to Lexus Hatfield today, they think it is not the gearbox but something with the gearstick/assembly. They are ordering a new gearshift assembly and also changing the oil for a thinner type.

We'll have to see how that goes.
