just thought i would update this old thread.

it rained allday today on the farm so in order to amuse myself I removed the front grille off my is200 and took into the kitchen. I used my nitromors car paint stripper to remove the grey paint and all thats left is the beautiful chrome underneath.

i was careful with the stripper at first but after a while i realised that its pretty chrome friendly and it didnt affect it at all. it took a fair few coats to get rid of the paint but i found i could leave the stripper on for 10 mins or more without any adverse effects.

afterwards i removed the left overs with a blunt knife to get into the corners.

I did in fact leave the grey paint inside the holes on the grille to make the chrome stand out more.

the whole job took around 4 hours so if you fancy a go at least you now know what to use to remove the paint.

why they ever painted over the chrome in the first place is still a mystery to me !!

by the way mines a 3 bar grille not the older 4 bar one, dunnno if it matters though reading earlier posts
