IN AUTO CAR-SPECIAL ISSUE 718 ON THE BACK PAGE

Mike Brewer talks about car security in marsh farm estate then goes on to say

"to drive off with something like a Lexus, for example, you not only need to employ a safecracker,, but you have to kit him out with some of the most sophisticated electronic security deveices that would make Tom Cruise's character in Mission Impossible scratching his head in bewilderment"

Thats what I'm talking about ppl:)

Edited into English:)

Yea - someone here did. I think it took 2 guys a couple of hours using a rather cunning method although all this did was retrieve the keys - if a thief used the same method they'd still need to get past the immobiliser and steering lock to move the car.

I've never been one to be fussie (spelling ?) about where I park but now I feel even better ....

Obviously except for those mindless vandals who just scratch or dent your motor. At least thiefs have some sort of brain even if it might be misplaced ... :). that last comment is slightly tongue in cheak !

Long story

Dad lost the keys to his Carlton - looked - but deffo gone.

Rang a professional locksmith who specialises in cars.

He turned up - jiggled about a bit - and was in the car in minutes - under three I'd say.

I was there, and my old fella was winding me up saying "Wonder how long it would take one of these guys to get into your car?"

I didn't want to know - figured I would sleep better at night if I didn't.

Anyway - he asked.

Guy looked, tutted and ummed - said he could get in - but it would take around 45 minutes - and wouldn't look nice.

(he got into the Carlton really easily - no forcing or damage to the car at all)

He then tried to get some professional cred back by saying he was getting the equipment soon - cos it was really just a 'teaota' (sic)

I know the IS had won "safest car" a few years running - but was nice to hear a guy who more or less breaks into cars for a living say that.
