Friend who lives in france had his IS200 stolen 3 weeks ago, the sneeks stole his keys from his home by tricking him, 20 mins later car gone.

His insurance co say they will not pay out because the key was used to take the car without a break in to his home.

does anyone here heard of the same thing here in the uk or is the french just a*ss ho*es.

I ain't heard of that before. That is a tricky one. If he gave the keys to the wowwypop who stole the car, I suppose he submitted the car to him. But then again the person now driving the car is not the rightful owner 'cos he don't hold the log book proving he's the registered keeper (this is if it was in the UK). So surely the car still remains stolen and his insurance should pay out for it ? It's kind off like he's been the victim of fraud.

Best of luck to him, but you know how reluctant Insurance companies are for paying out !

this is what i am worried about. The :tsktsk: got my keys through the letterbox. On the police letter it says 'Burgulary in Dwelling' so i am hoping i am ok. I am in the middle of the claim just now, so i should know in the next couple of days.

A work colleague had her 2 cars stolen from her driveway after the theifs open the front door to her house and casually grabbed the keys whislt the occupants were in the back room.

Her insurance company paid out for both cars.

There will always be insurance companies that do their hardest not to pay out.

They may be cheap but there is a reason.

I can remember one such company back in the 70's and all you were basically paying for was a covernote in case you got stopped, forget about claiming.

But it was cheap.

ally, no probs with your keys being stolen through the letterbox, its still a burg dwelling, as for the other insurance company they might have differnt laws in france but they wouldnt get away with it over here, mind you some insurance companies try to get out of paying if your car was unlocked and not alarmed so beware.

a fishing rod or bamboo cane through the letterbox or cat flap is one of the more popular methods used so make sure that your keys are secure and out of sight never mind reach.

I once used a 5 metre fishing pole to help a member of the public into her house as the keys were on the other side of her kitchen, she was well chuffed until I pointed out that it could have easily been a burglar doing it.
