Replacing The Is

Recommended Posts

I've been looking to change my IS for a GS with the imminent arrival of our second child (and i don't want an MPV just yet). Dealers (lexus and independents) have been offering fairly low PX prices for my car (1999 T SE Manual in Granite Sky 78k sport spoiler with history in immaculate condition i.e no dents, dings, scuffed alloys etc). They've been offering me between £5500 and £6000.

If i were to sell it privatley, what do you think a reasonable price would be? Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Sandeep

You are alwys better off selling the car private. Going into a dealers with a bundle of cash will always give you more buying power.

Book value though is around £10,500. Thats whats really a pee take.  :yack:

Don't mean to be rude, but where have you got that from? This is off parkers, 99 T with 50000 miles

Cost New ('99) £ 22000

Franchised Dealer £ 9630

Independent Dealer £ 9185

Private Good £ 8675

Private Poor £ 6540

Part Exchange £ 7645

i reckon you would get around 7.5k - 8k for it private .but dont think that buying your next car cash will get you a better price ,dealers much prefer finance deals or as you have found out they like to stuff you on your p/x and then sell that on for a profit.

A lot of dealers are fussy on what they take as part ex with a view to selling it themselves. I would imagine main dealers passing a car older than 3 years old out to the trade, that seems to be the norm round here for franchised delaers.

Most will phone around local traders they have arangements with to get bids on your part ex, so this will reflect what they offer you.

I've been trying to sell my 99V SE with 87k for 6 weeks now.

Its been on Autotrader website and now in the mag and I've had ONE CALL about it!!

I'm sure there are people out there looking for IS's in our price bracket, but its just finding them!!

Dealer only offered me £6k to P/X it, but I wanted more like 8-9.

Comments appreciated, i'll explain. I ran a search on lexus.co.uk in the used car section and an IS200 which had done 83k miles was up for 10,995 but that was about 2 months ago. Didnt realise they changed that much so quickly! :tomato::crybaby:

The prices stated above do look bit of a p1ss take to be honest  , around £6k is very low for an IS, I can't believe thats all they're worth after looking at what dealers are asking for good used ones.

Even private sales seem to be up for way more than that

Looks like I might get stung when I trade mine after the 3 year mark :crybaby:
