60k Service Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just a few quick questions about the 60k service. :crying:

1. My car is a 2001 Is200 sport, it has only covered 45k from new, however, the next stamp in the book is 60k. Am I right in saying that it's 12 months or 10k, that the services are due in ? Even though I haven't covered 60k, I still have to get that particular one done ?

2. I assume that the 2 most expensive things on the service as far as parts go is oil, and spark plugs ?

If I supply my own, will I lower the price considerably ? Which oil, and what quantity should I supply ?

And which spark plugs should they be ? And where can I order them from ?

If someone has had this service done recently it would be great to compare how much Lexus charged for oil and plugs ?

Many thanks. :D

The 60k service is about £600 and the most expensive element is probably labour. Supplying your own oil and plugs is not going to dent that price much.

When I first had my IS200 it had 6k on the clock and the garage advised me to go up in incriments of +1k to get the sequencing back, e.g. I had it serviced at 17k, 28k, 39k and then 40k onwards.

I've just had my 60k service, provided my own spark plugs - iridium denso ik20 off eBay from the us for £35, supplied my own air filter k&n - £40 and fitted my own aircon filter. I paid £340 with LOC discount. I didn't supply my own oil - but I probably will next time as they charged my £35

If you do all of the above you should expect to pay £300-£350 for the service - not bad eh!

Oh, you can fit the spark plugs if you want and that will drop the cost of the service by 1 hours labour. I chose to have them fitted by the dealer.

Just reading back your thead, to be honest mate if it was me I would have a minor service as your car is out of warranty the dealer won't be bothered and probably won't stamp the book and get the 60k service next year - as your car has only done 45k the plugs will be ok (good for 60k at the least)!

Good luck!

Mine is ready for its 60k service, it is over 5 years old and was lexus serviced up until the last one at 50k. Do you think it is worth getting it serviced by lexus or should i do it myself? Just oil, plugs water and filters at 60k isnt it?

Plugs, aircon filter, oil filter, air filter, change oil, top up coolant and they think they change the brake fluid.

If you can do it then go for it - depends on whether you want your book stamped for resale values etc.

I will probably be keeping this for five years or till I break it :) so i dont think it matters if i have the stamps too much, spose i could always make one out of a potatoe anyway :)

How come next service is 60k then if car is only 5 yrs old and covered 45k?

I had similar problem as 10k and 20k service done very close to each other as car was sold by first owner etc etc.

Personally I would get a 50k service done. Just go by the years. I doubled up on the 30k service for mine.
