Removing Precats With The S/c

Just a bit of future planning, and also because i'm confused after reading all the different threads on here.

If fitting a s/c, is it 100% necessary to remove your precats?

Can damage occur if they are left in place for a prolonged period of time?

Oh, and does anyone have the fitting guide of the s/c in electronic forum so I can browse?

Nick, I still have them in mine mate, did 25k with the SC fitted and they were OK, whereas Gord's went pretty quickly, guess it depends it you keep it at high revs for prolonged periods as that is when they go!

A fitting guide would be a good idea as I don't have the instructions, never got them with my kit, think Mat C has them so I'll have a word with him :)

I think a thread somewhere says that the cut and shut can decrease performance and that replacement manifold or pulse tuning or something by TDI is the better option.

proof of all this would be good though

lol, yeah, i'd like proof that it decreases power if doing cut and shut, buying a new de-cat manifold isnt cheap!

lexusboy, how much you asking?

The guys who usually have the precats out say the car feels a little freer revving I think?

The manifold is the ultimate option for power gains to be honest but it does come at a cost.

Do the precats bolt in or are they welded in to the header

could some1 not make a replacement pipe :whistling:

haven't seen what it looks like

No pre-cats dont bolt it, are welded into the header :D

as Aido says some leave them in with no problems :D but mine went after about 10,000 miles :duh:
