Norton anti virus has been playing up on my computer for about 6 months now and until now i havnt been arsed to do anything about it, but its starting to :tsktsk: me off.

I need help on uninstalling it completely. Ive been to add/remove programmes and removed it that way, but its still installed. I can still run the virus chaeck and in the corner of the task bar it says auto protect diabled, eventhough its enabled.

As a result i cant sign into websites or dowload anything, for example signing into hotmail, or downloading from i tunes.

does anyone know how i can completely remove it?

also i cant reinstall it as it came pre installed when i bought the lap top. If i download AVG will it override Norton?

thanks in advance

Have you tried looking in your Start Up menu ? Maybe it's in there ...............

There are ways of removing via Registry ... but it's rather techincal !

Even reg scrub scarface wont get rid of it. I know what you are saying doing a manual erase.

Trust me mate its annoying and unless you get someone who really knows about dll files etc it will be there

No my friend, this is nice and simple.

You must disable the Nortin Security... by right clicking on the icon.

Then when all it's functions are disabled, you must reboot into safemode (F8 when starting windows).

From here you will log in as an administrator, and then uninstall using the usual Add/Remove programs.

Reboot once more, into normal mode, and you will find it has been successfully removed.

If that doesn't work look for a remove download on there website. I buy a new Norton Interner Security and System Works each year from eBay as it's cheaper than a licence and it sometimes tells you you have to remove the old one first. If you go to website ..... www.symantec.com

Of all the recent Norton releases the 2005 one was particularly troublesome for some.

Fortunately the 2006 version seems a lot better.

To totally remove Norton follow the above advice and then download the removal utility from Symantec. This utility follows up the uninstall with a complete registry and file/folder scan and finishes off.

Norton is particularly awkward because it is so embedded.

A friend has Norton Internet Security running on windows XP. When she was connected to the web with a belkin wireless adapter and had MS Word open Word would lock up and the whole PC would become unstable.

To uninstall Norton I just used add/remove programs and rebooted and it seemed to completely remove it and the PC then ran fine.

I went into the norton control panel and disabled the firewall, spam filter etc etc and just left the virus checker enabled and it works OK like that.
