Me And My Big Mouth!

Yep, you've probably guessed it. Yesterday, having said that I didn't have any problems with my new 250 Sport, guess what!

I now have 3 issues, that I know of, with the car.

Yesterday evening went out to the drive to look at my new machine. Squatted down to look at the front fogs and noticed that condensation had formed in them......both of them!! As you can imagine plenty of swearing and cursing.

Went out for a spin and noticed a funny noise comming from the front passenger foot-well. When the car is stopped and the engine left idleing there is a rattling/grating/vibrating noise from the area around the foot-well. Almost sounds like a very very faint diesel engine noise, or a small stone being shaken in a plastic bottle!

When I depressed the clutch, the noise went away and the cabin becomes quiet. Taking the foot off again, the grating/grinding noise returns. The same noise is apparent when taking off and is more evident when going from 1st to 2nd. Once in the higher gears, noise seems to disappear, or is masked by the engine.

Afriend of mine seems to think it is the clutch cable rubbing off somthing. I'm not to sure as I don't know enough about cars.

The last issue is a rattle, or creek comming from the drivers door. Only noticable on rough roads and in Ireland we have plenty of them!! Then again, maybe its normal and I'm just paranoid after reading all the threads about all the various rattles!

Either way, I'm well f***ing irritated.

Can anybody shed some light on the above problems?

Did ring the dealers straight away and have been booked in to see the Lexus "specialist" on Tuesday afternoon.

No doubt the fogs will have dried up by then!!

I get a door rattle at low speeds (< 50 mph), but I do have the diesel and there is slightly more vibration. Otherwise the car is silent with slight road noise.

In response to your problems - the sound from the front door/clutch is to do with the cable, the dealer should be able to sort this in just 5 minutes. I just got it sorted last week during my lunch break, nothing to worry about.

Rattles - that comes free with all new Lexus IS, sorry but this may take some while to get sorted. I am pretty sure Lexus will have a solution to this problem, it isnt new. Whilst its no consolation to your problems, I am sure Lexus will be able to sort this out for you.

325ci Msport nice. My choice before the lexus but side by side the lexus wins hands down on the aggresive squat especially the way i have made it look now. Even better now that s/c is on and i can play with the 325.

I would be gutted and livid if i had bought a crippled 250.

Oh bruv.....sorry to hear that..

:blink: :o :crybaby::msn-cry:

Fraid so  Only just started in last few days - when the weather warmed up. I've mentioned it to the dealer and they said I can bring it any time to be sorted (try). I'll wait until there is some general consensus on the cause of the door rattle.

I don't think this will be a problem.

My last two Toyotas suffered from condensation in the lights but the problem went away after a couple of months.

If it happens on my 220d when it arrives I will not be too concerned.

Its not the point though is it. Doesnt happen with merc's and bmw's.

Maybe he should ask for £2000 reduction and we will see if lexus give it :shifty:

How wrong you are!

It happens all to frequently with Mercs and BMW's.

My friends E class a/c didn't work and the glove compartment was warped, so doesn't close properly.

My neighbour's BMW 320d auto is rather noisy and jerky, and having seen my car wishes he made a different choice, especially after seeing all the toys!

Anyway Matty, sorry to hear about your minor problems. I had rattle problems which the dealer has sorted out, and they will fix yours quickly, unlike my friends Merc, whose a/c still doesn't work after 3 months and now his stereo has packed up. Just have a peek at their forums, It's depressing!!

Gord has been given courtesy car which happens to be a Merc and he reckons the auto box is jerky as hell.

I think BMW and Merc are far from perfect and even further behind than Lexus!

Yep Lexus were always ahead, it is disappointing though that they seem to be slipping down to their levels, I'm hoping its just because its a new car and these things will get ironed out soon

The Merc and BMW in our household have both had condensation in the headlights (the BMs was so bad it killed both the xenons as they couldn't get replacement headlights for months. New cars always have a few teething troubles, if you speak to my bro about the problems with his Z4, you'll never buy a new car at launch again!

Not sure bout the Merc auto being jerky tho, the 7 speed box in our car is silky smooth, the only thing I find odd is that it shifts into 1st before coming to a standstill when slowing down, so while you don't normally notice it, in slow moving traffic it makes the car jerky a little each time ;)

(sorry i had to put in "jerky" in that last sentence, but "j3rk" got blanked out! )

I suspect it changes into 1st to get engine breaking

Maybe not condensation problems, but others...I have had three mercedes, frist C- class coupe with a panaorama roof...creaks and groans form the roof galore!!! Then I had a E-class 320 with the new 7 speed auto, lots of software issues with the transmission, hesitated to change up gear. MB relplaced the car. Gues what..same probelm on the replacement. MB's do have their fair share!

Well i havent heard of it curtisp and i wouldnt have it if i bought any car new.

didnt see any reliability surveys in past 5 years, and I mean any? obviously :-).

In 2005 Mercedes had the highest number of recalls of any manufacturer in the Europe. I think it was around 350 per 1000 cars. Then I think the next to them was Peugeot with something like 86 per 1000.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi folks,

Been watching these forums for a while now, have now joined in the hope of seeking the advice available...

Way back at the start of this thread Matty raised the following problem...

"When I depressed the clutch, the noise went away and the cabin becomes quiet. Taking the foot off again, the grating/grinding noise returns"

I bought my IS250 Sport a month ago now and it is unfortuneately suffering from the same problem by the sounds of it (no pun intended).

While the garage has been helpful they have not been able to resolve this as yet.

A friend believes it to be the clutch release bearing...

Anyone have the same problem and if so have they been able to get it resolved?

Thanks for any help you can give

KevM

Hi nicnac,

The dealership have offered for me to take a run in another car which I am hoping to take them up on as soon as possible (maybe even tomorrow afternoon). They will also send an engineer out for an extended test drive with me if I wish when we can arrange it.

Neither my wife nor I remember any such noise from the demonstrator we drove a number of times before placing the order so will try another car (or two) and see what they are like.

I was just hoping that someone else had the problem resolved and I could pass on the details to the service department.

Cheers,

KevM

Hows it going KevM.

Sorry, but I can't help you out at the moment.

I'm still waiting for the dealer to take my car in!!

Apparently they did send a technical report to Lexus Ireland regarding this strange noise and are still waiting for a reply!!

I have a feeling that they know about as much as we, the "joe public" know about this new model.

Me thinks that we could be waitin a while!!

If you get anymore info on this problem, please let me and the rest us know.
