Engine Light And Crawl Home Mode

Recommended Posts

Hi

Yesterday my car displayed the engine light and the cars accelerator was disabled. After placing foot right to the floor i could move the car as it gave slight revs.

I suppose this is a crawl home mode. After restarting the car it reset and was fine.

However I then found the car was sluggish.. eratic transmission.. but still smooth.

I decided this evening to reset the CPU after reading stuff here... I am going to attatch the batter lead in a mo.

One thing i did notice was the Red Power lead was not attatched that tight as I could wiggle it off the Battery.

Also inside the terminal was a bit corroded.

Could this be why i got an engine light?? and cause the tranmission to be confused??

car engine sounds well sweet.. so thats fine.... just periodic.

cheers

clean the terminals/connectors with sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad retighten and then cover the terminals with a small bit of vaseline if you are concerned about the corrosion starting again

Hopefully that's what your problem was. Fingers crossed!

thanks for the replies

i got a better connection this time.

I am wondering if the engine light is anything to do with the transmission playing up as its still not right. Seems each gear change from 1 to 2nd and 3rd the revs in between raise slightly in between gears.

I guess I am going to see if any engine codes appear.

Is there any kits you can buy to get the codes yourself??

Even though the engine light is not on will the car still spit any codes??

Yes but only for a limited period of time, need to get the codes read before they are lost, unless the em light comes back on that is.

hello,

my car has started to over rev sometimes and i can hear a slight rumble before the engine light comes on. the transmission dosnt change if i floor it but if i ease off it changes smoothly. my flex pipe had a hole in it before and i assumed that air was getting to the sensors when the engine light used to come on but ive fixed this problem so i dont understand why the only other assumption could be the transmission. i have used toyota oil from lexus in the tranmisson.

again after i turn the car off the light turns off and the car is back to normal, do automatics have clutch plates maybe i need to replace it.

could anyone please advise me or any suggestions

Thanks

If your gearbox is very jerky or kicks on engaging,,, i.e. neutral into drive or reverse or your very jerky on the change adjust your throttle position sensor anti clockwise a fraction and try again

I had this problem after the rebuild of my head, as I had all the throttle body etc off and cleaned it all up

I called in at Lexus and a very kind Lexus techie told me this, I adjusted it back a fraction twice (simple 2 screws but I did have to remove the front plasic engine cover to get to the bottom screw

and amazingly the take up was smooth and seemless and it all went back to normal, including tickover and kickdown

Apparently the throttle sensor controls part of the gearbox somewhere in the electronics

He said that last week someone came in with the same problem and had taken it somewhere else and was told it was a new gearbox and £2,500, he fixed it for a tenner for the bloke

Now I haven't a clue how or why this adjustment works but it has on my GS
