Electronic Air Filters

I've just been hearing about a new technology in air filtering....

Rather than using a physical barrier filter or even cyclonic principles, a certain manufacturer is currently developing an air cleaning system based upon ionising air inside a cyclonic system which removes 100% of all particles.

The idea has already been patented and will be incorporated in the next generation of vacuum cleaners.

Could this also have a potential in replacing the current physical barrier air filters for automotive use?

The idea seems excellent to me but it's a lot of Air to ionise very quickly as it flows through and manufactorers (excuse the spelling) would have to be careful because if it packed in and all the dirty air got through they could be held to blame?

Just my quick thoughts but it does seem like a very good idea.
