never knew the pod was that expensive ... jesus thats a lot for somthing that dose nothing . might just stick with a pillar pod . cheaper .. jesus 250 pounds ..

Thats 250 pounds without gauges! and you can't very well go and stick cheep arse gauges in there after spending that amount now can you....

Personally i wouldn't put in extra gauges until i had something new to monitor like a Turbo... :winky:

You can make that pod holder for less than £40 tops, another £40ish you can layer it in real carbon fibre.

Granted, it won't be plastic (fibreglass) but who in the hell cares?

Whatever you wanted mate!

1st, make a base using 2 layers of fibreglass matting

Then make some rings depending on the size of the gauges

hot glue them in place using wooden dowels

use some fleece or an old t-shirt, stretch it over, around and under.

soak in resin, allow to harden.

sand and trim off access.

use some fine filler like rage green fine icing filler, sand.

primer then paint, or trim in alcantara or layer with carbon fibre weave.

I could knock one up in couple of hours, and would cost no more than £40 for materials.

£250, yeh for convenience, but really for a moulding that is just injection moulded... thats plain ridiculous IMO :)

I'd like to see that myself :duh:

You haven't seen my fibreglass skills.

Wanna bet i can't make one ;)

Granted, he's lost the air vents, but that was to make space for center channel, since its a Focal Demo car, but thats the basic idea.

:)

Here is another piece of expensive plastic.... TRD gauge pod :winky:

It is not like plastic that you would think, plastic :duh: if you know what i mean, it feels more like a sort of pot, its very well made :) not like plastic at all. :o

What difference is it, made from plastic or fibreglass?

Agreed, if it was an exterior mod i would look for plastic/PU where possible.

But for £250, its just a rip off :)

It was for Focals Demo car at CES 2003. Done by Cartunes in CA (USA)

I met the owner of that car and the installer when i was in las vegas few yrs back... got some pics somewhere.

Bet it cost more than £40 ...........

1kg Roll CSM 300gm (3.3 square metres) = £3.86

5kg pack Low Cost Resin with catalyst (5ltrs) = £12

Easy Sand Body Filler 500gm pack = £3.86

Paint brush for resin = £1

Old t-shirt = £0

6mm MDF for rings = £1 from timber yard

dowels = £1 from timber yard

masking tape = £2 (50mm best)

Primer = £3

Satin black paint = £3

£30.72+ VAT

£36.09

To paint it like Tysen did on there focal demo car, i'd give £20 to a body shop to do that for me :) (so take out the £7 for paint above and that makes it £50 or therebouts?

Anyone can give it a go, its like paper mashay :D

I didn't say pay someone to make it, i said you can DIY for peanuts.

I'd happily make it, given time for someone, wouldn't take more than 3-4hrs.

Or make a moulding and produce them in bulk :)

Besides, how much would the prolex one cost, if you time to take to painter etc......... closer to £280ish right?
