today I am going to take a test drive in the is200 sport with satnav...its a car i've been looking at for a while & eventually decided to take the plunge

The car is on a "V" plate with 66,000 miles

My question if anyone can help is this:

Although the car is spotless inside and out and priced at £13500 i was wondering if theres any problems i should be looking for with a car of this mileage.I've always had mercs in the past and the mileage never bothered me..are these cars just as good as mercs at high mileage or is there a point when they start to get a bit worn ?

any advice is appreciated...thx

Be sure to check .....

Wheels - for signs of pitting ... get all 5 replaced if they are !

Clutch - try it in stop / start + crawling speed traffic for juddering.

Seats - do the front ones creak ?

Paint - for stone chips, the paint on these cars is rubbish !

Gearbox - as Rob mentioned, difficult gearchange ? specially when cold.

Shock absorbers - known to leak / fail prematurely.

I think that's the main things to watch for from memory ..

Is this from a Lexus main dealer ?

Get a proper warranty - at 66k it's past the manufacturers 3yr / 60k one.

I'd also ask for a full alignment to be done + ask for the printed result sheet.

(this is one way duff suspension is found if they can't get it withing spec)

If the above are issues, make sure they're sorted BEFORE taking delivery.

Easier than arguing with warranty company later about what is and isn't reasonable.

Other that that, just the normal precautions for used car buying ...

Did you kick the tyres to check they were ok :withstupid:

Hope that helps.
