Has Anyone Ever Experienced Replacing A Valve In The Manifold?

Recommended Posts

The engine management light is on constantly in my 60,000 mile 2001 LS430 and the fault code reveals that there is a fault with a valve in the manifold and that the valve is possibly sticking?

Has anyone else experienced this? I am a bit concerned that even if the valve is replaced, the engine management light will stay on.

Greatly appreciate any advice/experience of LS430 owners unlucky enough to have had their engine management light stay on.

Hi

There is a Lexus LS430 on eBay at the moment item number 120152392656 It states in the advert

"The October 2007 receipt for £1100 detailing the replacement of the two oxygen sensors and a valve in the manifold naturally comes with the history file of the car."

This is a 2000 model with 64000 miles...

So this is obviously a common problem.... hope you can find a relpacement cheaper somewhere else.... If you do please let me know

Has got me worried as mine has done 61000 now....

Good Luck

Pete

I've been thinking about this a little more. Depends on what one means when they say manifold. The exhaust manifold or the intake manifold ? In any case:

Exhaust Manifold: - I can't think of any valves that would be located on the exhuast manifold. The oxgygen sensors are the obvious ones but they won't 'stick' if they are faulty. They would probably throw up a fault code or Check Engine error message on the dash display

Intake Manifold - on the intake manifold one valve which is connected to it that is known to stick is the PCV valve. This sometimes gets stuck or cloged up with carbon and gunk. It usually is more of a problem on any car which spends most of its life doing lots of start - stop short jouneys. You can test if it is stuck by taking it out and see if it rattles or the blowing air test.

I replaced the PCV valve on my LS400 last summer. It probably didn't need doing coz the existing one seemed pretty good, but after around 60k miles just for good measure I did it to make sure everything keeps on working tip top and faultless for the future.

The PCV valve was £18 from the dealer and I replaced it along with the air filter and cleaned all the air intakes at the same time.

Is a 2000 and 2001 model the same?

This link shows a valve assembly and an actuator, the valve has eight holes in it presumably one for each cylinder. The parts don't look expensive but maybe the labour to fit them is (assuming this is the valve in question)?

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I ended up trading my car in for a 2005 LS430 at the main dealer. I eventually found out that the ECU had failed completely and that it needed a new ABS sensor too. It would cost a small fortune to replace so I cut my losses! I wouldn't worry too much if you have a LS430 with around 60000 miles as what happened to mine is apparently extremely rare!

It is interesting that the LS430 on eBay has been mentioned as a friend from Devon had a look at this car last weekend. He couldn't fault it and said that the blemishes mentioned were not noticeable and had to be pointed out to him. He loved the way the car drove and made an offer of £11500 which was declined. I'm not sure what the car is worth but its important to buy a well sorted LS430, I made the mistake of buying one with the engine management and VSC warning light on when I'd have been better off paying more for one with no faults.

My friend is thinking of making a higher offer, he has looked at some cheaper 120,000+ miles cars and wasn't too impressed with the condition! How much does everyone on here think the one on eBay is worth? Was £11500 too low or a fair offer?

I guess it's the 2000 year one at £12,995 and it's a dealer sale, they don't like moving much on price.

It is however fairly low mileage with FLSH.

Is there any warranty on it?

If he gets stuck with it for a month on the forecourt £12,000 seems a fair price and you could use the saving to fill it up 10 times!!! :whistling:

BTW all supermarkets have BOGOFFS but they never have buy one litre get one free at their filling stations Hmmm!

Every Litre Helps!!
