Have changed original 17" Lexus wheels off my IS250 and replaced them with 18" chromes. They are original Lexus 18" grand prix chromes with Goodyear F1 Eagle tyres (225/40/ZR18 92Y) all round. Have included a coiple of pics but wish to know of a company in the midlands who could advise / set up the tracking for the rears. Abit worried that i may incurr rear tyre wear or worse still do damage to suspension.

I have had this on a different topic but comments were varied to say the least. By all means view it and see for yourself. Having gone from 17" to 18" (agreeable that its only an inch) the tyres are all the same. 225/40/18. Previous ones being 225 and 245 profile. Some say they look skinny on the rear and some say i will incurr premature rear tyre wear. I havent't had them tracked either as i am unsure of settings to use?

I certainly don't want to damage the car in anyway but also don't want to keep changing the tyres at silly intervals.

Hope you can see were i am coming from

Have already consulted dealer and they confirmed that the CORRECT tyre size / profile are being used.

Sorry to stick my nose in here again as I feel slightly responsible for all this.......

In terms of the actual car, I can't see how it would do any damage to your suspension, people put different wheels on different cars all the time - as an example my dad's CLS comes as standard with narrower tyres (8" wide I think) and he has the optional wheels which are 9.5" wide at the rear. I'm pretty sure Mercedes wouldn't do this if that kind of difference would damage the car - there is no other difference mechanically to his car.

However, tyre wear is a completely different issue which Lexus don't seem to be very good at - my IS200 with standard wheels and tyres wore through its fronts on the inner edge really quickly, as it has for many others, so they don't seem to know what they're doing.

I'd make sure to keep an eye on the wear, and check that they are wearing evenly. Other than that, speak to Tony (Wheels in motion) about any of his approved places in your area that you could have your geometry checked, as this is the part that many people on here have found to be one of the most important things to have correct on your car.

I hope that makes you feel a bit better, but I'd be very surprised if it caused any serious damage :)

As i butted in on another post, i thought i would open my own topic relating to this matter.

Thank you VERY much for your input. I am worried but i may just be being stupid. I was just reading Tony's new venture, unfortunately its miles away from where i am. Fully appreciate swapping wheels is common and plenty people do it. A second opinion or a specialist would DEFINATELY put my mind at rest. I am VERY reluctant to drive it at the moment. I have to drive to Scotland next week then back to Derby, then to Gatwick airport. Will definately keep an eye on tyre wear front & back.

Thanks once again Parthiban.

Tony knows good geometry people all over the UK. I'm sure he can refer you to a qualified person in your part of the world.

Having read of his new venture he sounds a very talented person. How do i get in contact with this guru? If you are viewing this thread Tony, your input would be invaluable.

Hi mate like the new wheels on your car...as regards to tyre issue dont see there being to much of an issue other than having slightly wider tyres at the rear would improve grip, handling etc.....but you would have to ask Tony ( WIM Wheels in motion )..on that issue..but yep lovely looking wheels and car looks good. :D

you will not damage the car - and unless the rears were wearing quickly u have no concern for huge abounts of tyre wear on ur new car either - i would however contact tony and ask for his advice and ask him to explain the effects of the larger wheels.

if you take the centre cap off you will find a number that starts with AM - what is it and i will tell u the correct size of tyre that should be on the wheel.

Comforting to know of the positive comments given by those of you that have read this. It doesn't feel quite right but having said that it wouldn't compared to before would it
