Lazy Is200 Seatbelt Retraction

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a 99 IS200 Sport with about 100k on the clock.

The seatbelts (pretty much all of them) don't retract very well. Some are worse than others, and really need to be 'fed' back in to get them to go away. I'm worried about them getting damaged if they get shut in the door, etc.

Any ideas if this can be tightened, or do I need to replace them? How much do they cost, and what is involved in fitting?

They are the cream colour.

Martin.

I'm in the same boat, i put it down to all the dust that must have made its way into the retractor clogging it up all.

If anyone does find a fix for it, let us all know!

I thought MOT faliure is ...

when the seat belts are frayed..

OR

dont lock in postition

Manual also states:

Reason for rejection:

b. a retracting mechanism does not retract the webbing sufficiently to remove all the slack from the belt with the locking mechanism fastened and the seat unoccupied

Mine also are very slow to retract. I would recommend taking the trim off and cleaning the mechanism as from experience with other cars in past, they are prone collect dust and hair.

hi martin. hope ya got the key issues sorted!! yeah mines the same age and am forever feeding them back in. its kinda become 2nd nature now!

2nd nature for me too, but not my passengers who insist on closing the door on them :) Thanks, keys are all good now!

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll take a wee look and see if cleaning/lubrication helps.

Martin.
