Gs 300 Tyre Wear

Can someone please advise on tyre wear on my GS 300.

Bought it new in 2006 and have driven 15000 miles.

At its annual service Lexus Twickenham advised me of inside tyre wear on both front tyres. They suspected the wheels were out of line, and said that I should have the geometry checked. I've just had this done by a main dealer in France, where I'm on holiday, and it seems the problem was negative camber not tracking. Camber on the front wheels was at top end of manufacturer's tolerance, but all other measurements were fine. The front tyres were badly worn after the drive to France, and I've now switched the original Dunlop Sports from the rear to the front and fitted new Michelin Primacy to the rear.

I've never had a problem with wheel geometry before (previous cars over 40 years include Ford, Citroen, Peugeot) and would like to know if other owners have experienced similar problems. I'd also like to know what has caused the excessive camber, or was it a fault when the car was new?

Or are Dunlop tyres not up to the job?

That's a sweeping statement. So every Lexus model has incorrect standard settings?

Something isn't right if its inner wear, i only posted up the link to WIM so Gwilym can go and ask the relevant q's on there.

I don't think camber adjusters would be set at the maximum due to Dunlop tyres..They have to physically be moved to a specific degree.

It sounds like your geometry needs to be independently verified by a true expert. Personally, I wouldn't trust Lexus with the geometry.

Do get it checked out though, tyres are expensive to replace!

Now I am slightly more confused than when I left the Lexus dealer yesterday.

Are you saying that the various range settings for tracking, camber etc as supplied to me by Lexus are incorrect? In which case who can I trust to set the geometry up properly?

Or are you saying that cars leave the factory (or the showroom) with incorrect settings? In which case I should make a complaint to Lexus UK whilst my GS is still under guarantee?

Please clarify.

I'd also be interested to hear what mileage other GS drivers have achieved with the factory Dunlop tyres. 15,000 miles seems pretty miserable to me, given my sedate driving style.

Apart from this potentially serious niggle the GS is by far the most comfortable and enjoyable car I have owned.
