Anyone Have The Same Problem With The Boot?

When I unlock the boot,either using the key fob or the lever in the car it does not spring open.

It remains closed although it is unlocked.

Is this due to overuse or is there a problem with the boot mechanism?

mine has the same issues i tried some spray grease it worked for a few days but then gets stuck the boot just cant get it up now

perfectly normal - the torsion bar springs get tired with age and use...

u can get the bars for the boot lids with spoilers as they are stronger

or you can either fit a gas strut like some members have

could be if you have a spoiler it may be put on after the car was produced. u can buy the uprated spring mechanism to sort the problem out!!

mine sticks now, it didn't when I got the car, altho its fine when its clean and i give the seals a wipe

There's something wrong with the bootlid on my IS200. From a quick look underneath, it looks like one of the torsion bars has popped out of the retaining clip in the middle. I'm going to see if it will go back on, because when the bootlid opens there's some strange clonking noises from the loose torsion bar.

Well I was at the local CostCo today, loading up the boot, and I had a go at the torsion bar that was out of position. The good news is it worked a treat and I was able to push it back into place, the bad news is it crushed the tip of my thumb slightly and I now have a sore thumbnail

Problem solved though I think :) Hope it lasts.
