Hid Conversion

It's not what I did at the time, but if I were buying some HIDs now, I'd just get the cheapest kit I could find on eBay. I don't think there's much to choose between them.

and if you want fog lights to match xenon, buy this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...T&viewitem= just for the looks.

How bright are those in reality ? I never use my front (OEM) fogs, they seem to be pretty useless (I don't really understand what the point of them is for visibility purposes, as opposed to just looks), so I'd consider something like this. ok, so I could get HID fogs, but I don't think there would be that much point with HID dipped beams already (and the option for HID main beams too).

Aren't HID's and Xenons the same thing? HID meaning High Intensity Discharge and the gas used is Xenon.

Yep. But you can get replacement "Xenon bulbs" that aren't HIDs, they're just regular bulbs with a little bit of Xenon gas in them to give a bluish tinge. That doesn't make them any brighter though.

HIDs don't use a filament, there's an electrical current flowing through the Xenon gas, and it takes a very high voltage to initially start them, then a much lesser voltage to keep them going. That's what the ballasts do that come with HID kits, a small bit of electronics to provide a very high startup current, and circuitry to stabilise that for normal operation.

Xenon-replacement bulbs as you can get in Halfords are a waste of money. A proper HID kit is miles brighter.

I wouldn't say Xenon bulbs are a waste of money, obvioulsy there not as bright as HID's but there alot better than the original ones, I would say tho don't get them from Halfords get them off e-bay I paid about £14 for 2 HB4's 2 HB3's Xenons & 2 LED 501's, at Halfords you'll pay about £14 per bulb there's even been a few pound shops selling them recently. I will be getting HID's eventually but for a stop gap Xenons are fine and look alot better than OEM yellow.
