Noise From O/s/f Brake

Recommended Posts

hi i have recently had fitted a new set of discs and pads allround, when the wheel gets hot there is a metallic noise coming from the o/s/f . it was worse yeaterday so when i got home i had a cup of tea then went to have a look to see if i could see anything that could be making the noise. i couldn't see anything untoward so i checked the discs and the o/s/f disc was hot to touch when the others were ok.

the noise seems to be there all the time and increases with speed of the car. it only stops when the car is coming to a stop ?

any ideas would be greatful, thanks

here you go mate.

cleaning the pistons .remove the two caliper holding bolts(14mm) remove and rest the caliper on a box at the side of the hub do not take off the flexible brake hose. Place a block of wood between the pistons and the opposite face of the caliper and press on the brake pedal until pistons are pushed threequarters out of thier housing" DO NOT PUSH THEM ALL THE WAY OUT".One of the pistons might be ok and will come out all the distance in a short time if the other piston does not come out at the same rate this piston will need more pedal pressure until it comes up against the wooden block. If one or both pistons do not move the only option is to replace the caliper. Push the rubber boot back towards the seat of the piston, the piston will probably be rusted and gungy clean the surface with wd40 and emery cloth until it is clean and relativly polished then clean using brake cleaner then put a smeer of grease round the piston .Place a G clamp across a spanner fronting the pistons and the back of the caliper and screw the pistons back into thier housings. you may need to do his several times, both screwing in and pumping out before the pistons move freely.when the pistons move freely apply water proof silicone grease to the surface of the pistons and make sure the rubber boots are back over the ends of the pistons reassemble the caliper and they should be fine for another year. and you will save at least £100 per caliper.
