Grom Adaptor

How does the connection to the OEM stereo work?

Is there a line in on the OEM Stereo?

What connection does this "Grom" adapter offer? Is it a simple 3.5mm jack? Reason I ask is that I have a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music that uses a 3.5mm jack for its output....could I use my Nokia with this Grom adapter?

Are there other connections/interfaces that people have used with OEM stereos?

There is a spare port on the back of the stereo which was essentially for the optional MD changer that Lexus offered but technically could have been used for an external CD changer.

The grom unit (and other similar devices like xcarlink) use the CD emulation to give access to an external source. There are three types they offer, one is a pure aux in (red and white RCA cables, so could be used for a 3.5mm jack), one is an ipod kit (provides control of the ipod using the headunit controls) and the third is a usb kit which lets you plug any usb device in and control it via the headunit again.

I have the aux in and then an extra bit of kit on top which is a phone kit and also ipod/usb/sd/bluetooth music player and have been very happy with the setup :)

I have recently ordered one of these GROM audio adapters (ipod version for my iPhone), and I am very pleased with it. I wanted to keep the original stereo because I know the rear parcel shelf speakers had their own amp, and by changing the OEM stereo you would lose that amplification.

So i fitted it with the help of someone on heres dismantling instructions. At some point soon I am planning on putting a dock connection in the top dash tray so I can mount my Iphone up there.

Will put some pics up when I am done.

Yes,

The Grom UK distributor works out of a farm just up the road from me, so I popped up and bought one, it's in and I'm happy with it. My ipod just sort of sits connected in the recess behind the cigar lighter.
