hey guys phone lexus nottingham today to get prices and they will do the cambelt for £299, they want an extra 60 for the tensionor which is fair enough.

the opil change is £99 on offer done by them.

transmission fluid done was £150

so £450 after all vat was added.

not to bad a price but im sure the transmission fluid and oil change could be done cheaper.

is the filter for the oil near the bottom? what oil dop i need?

can i do the oil change my self and save money or would i only save 20-30 which if that is the case not worth me doing.

cars done 123k

cheers guys

1994 LS400

any tips appreciated!

also is there a button to turn the boot off so you cant unlock it with the key? or is my lock jammed?

was fine 3 days ago, my mum drove the car for 2 minutes (didnt touch the boot) and now i have to use the knob in the car as the key wont work!

I'd say you got a good price for the cam belt change, Oil change could be cheaper (filter at bottom of engine - accessed when splash gaurd moved), but trans fluid change if done properly (filter, fluid flushed through) is very reasonable too (cost me £258 at a trans specialist).

I doubt they will flush the transmission like the tutorial explains on here....it is a proper job to do....messy and takes a lot of fluid......doubt they will even drop the pan....

they will just suck out the fluid with their syphoning machine....and replace what they remove....not a proper change in my book....mixing new fluid with old makes no sense to me.

Oil change for a hundred quid....bleedin cheek...do it yourself....its an hour at most first time...second time 30 minutes as your confidence grows....

just a fiddly job taking off the engine splash guard underneath.

Cam belt is a good price ...let them do that and order yourself a couple of filters while your there....then off to Halford for some decent Oil....I use normal 20/50 mineral as stated in hand book....and change every 2000 miles...but I'm fussy with Oil.

or you can go fancy and use a synthetic...but I dont like it...personally.

By key do you mean the fob...you need to "hold" the button for a few seconds to release boot.

Good Luck .

nah i mean the key pushes into the lock on the boot but int wont turn, just wont budge and i dont want to break it, its worked fine before this tho!

sure oil change wont take one, done loads on my 200sx but never 1 on the lexus, all the same tho.

i will have a look at the transmission fluid, its not giving me any problems and is a light red in colour with no funny smell so may be ok.

cheers guys!

I'm tempted to go get mine done there for that price. Not the other stuff I can do myself easy enough but the cam belt change for sure. I'd expect to pay that at my local independant garage and not have the proper Lexus stamp for it either (not that my Mk3 still has FLSH but hey)

The car has done 123k.

Has the belt not been changed before?

Heres how to change the oil:

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lubrication/oilchange.html

Doing it yourself will save 40 to 50 quid, even using top of the range oil, not the stuff that most dealers use.

The Toyota trans fluid costs a fortune, Work it out at about a tenner a litre.

Which if they DID do a proper change and flush means they charged nowt for labour.

Which, for a garage that charges 100 quid for an oil change, is cobblers.

Mine's a bit like that. Try wiggling the key in the lock a bit, it'll probably work in the end. If not, you could always shoot it up with some WD40?

I had my oil and filter changed at Kwikfit (yes, I know) but they charged less than the cost of the oil from Halfords (same oil)

you sure its the same oil and not cheapo dregs from the nearest chip shop?

well, they SAID it was the same oil, Mobil1, got a receit and everything (£39)

Engine definately running quieter

well we went down yesterday to get the car done.

we arrived at lexus nottingham at around 11.am we signed the paper work etc.

price £299 cambelt changed, would be an extra about £60 if tensioner required but not known untill replaced.

lexus then booked us a taxi to nottingham for the day, we went round the castle, down the caves, had some lunch and a spot of shopping in the centre etc.

we then got a call from lexus saying the cars coolant was ****** basically. it would be £30 to change it, i said go ahead!

taxi picked us up and took us back to lexus, all free drinks, comfy sofas, watching tv.

car was finished we paid up, with the cambelt change they do a full car check for free so i have a little list of things that need sorting.
