In the snow I would suggest 255/40/17s,well they might as well be skies on the LS400!

How about a pair of roof bars. Then you can go Cross country too.

Yeah I know .... could get roof racks, but they are a chew to fit, and they make a noise (and if I remember correctly Thule don't make a fitting kit so it has to be the lexus ones). I'll go out with the tape and try and work it out, even though it is cold and snowing :-(

You could try a set of inflatable roof bars, they sell on eBay for about £40 a set.

Don't forget to put your skis on before going out

For anyone who's interested. I think a modern pair of women's skis (150cm ) would fit in the boot. A decent length pair of mens carvers should fit in the back of the car diagonally from the footwell to the parcel shelf. Possibly even as long as 180. Longer than that and you are going to need to eat into the front space, which might cause some damage if you have to brake hard.

Now we'll see what the LS430 is like in the snow in the Pennines next week.
