Just thought I would put up my first post to say hello.

My father passed away recently and left his LS430 parked in his garage the car was his pride and joy and gave him great pleasure every time he drove it.

It is a 2001 car with 33k on the clock. When I got the car valued to sell it I was devastated to find out how little it was worth. So I have decided to keep the car and restore it. It has a few scuffs on the body work and the wheels need a referb as they are badly corroded. This is somthing we talked about getting sorted for him but like many things never got done.

This forum looks a great source of information and I hope to be able to contribute as I progress with the car.

Hello,

Firstly please accept my condolences on the recent passing of your Father.

Welcome to the LOC and take comfort in the fact you have inherited a Lexus flag ship car with such low mileage.

Prices have tumbled due to running costs mainly fuel but driven sensibly and with regular servicing it will serve you well and with just 33k on the clock it's still being run in.

Lexus alloy wheels are well known for paint/corrosion issues and no one seems to know why when the rest of the car is so well made, find a good recommended wheel specialist and have them refurbished.Costs vary but I think £40-50 is the average per wheel for a proper job.

Another thing to check from the service history is whether the cam belt has been replaced not on a mileage basis in your case but due to age, I think it should be replaced at 100,000 miles or 8 years so if it has never had one get it replaced as soon as possible, the engine will be seriously damaged if the belt were to break.

We are a friendly forum so if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the welcome.

I know a wheel specialist who will take care of the wheels and have used them before. As for the cam belt that was done last year as the dealer recomended it changing at 10 years. I have obtained a service history print out from the dealer so i know what everything that has been done to the car.

As you say its not run in so should last well.

Hi Steve and a warm welcome to LOC, sympathy for the loss of your father.

Good decision about the LS, it will run forever with no issues, if you consider what you dont spend on breakdowns and repairs it dosent make the fuel bill seem so bad.

Run the car and think of Dad.

Regards Tony
