Ls430 Mpg

Hi everyone

I've had my ls430 now for around 3 weeks, I'm getting 27mpg that's local driving which is very good for a 4.3 litre, but that's using v power fuel at shell, I just wanted to ask, is everyone getting the mpg as I am? Is it normal? I went Lexus dealers, they were that the ls430 engine is lighter that ls400, but in general the ls models drink less than the gs models.

I would say that's very good for urban driving, what are you getting on a run?

Mine does around 18 in town and maybe 25 on a run but there again the later engines are much improved when it comes to fuel efficiency even with increased output and powering a near two tonne car.

Is that 27 on the OBC or on brim fill? My GS430 in these colder days is giving around 16/19 local and 28/32 on a run. Even with very light right foot I have never got over 20 round town.

Its a 2001 ls430, on a run I get 45-48 mpg, I put in £20 v power in it couple of weeks ago, it got me back from bolton to Birmingham, and I still had 57miles left in the tank when I got back to Birmingham. It's amazing.

But how much petrol was in the tank before you put £20 in. In all honesty I think that your figures are totally impossible no matter what petrol you are using.

Well the fuel light was on obviously meaning put some fuel in, but to be honest even when I had the ls400, using shell v power, I was getting 22-23mpg around town, but what I know from main dealers is that the gs models do drink more fuel and mpg isn't very good on them because of the way they are made, something to do with aerodynamics, while the ls models are better. But then again I don't have a heavy foot either.

there must be something wrong with my GS430 then because i get 15 round town and 32 on motorway!

I am struggling to see how you are doing that!

Glad to see I'm not alone in getting 16-19 round town, 28-32 on a run. Maybe it's because we both use petrol, not fairydust.

In the last month I've driven 1500 miles, real mixture of town, country roads and a couple of longer motorway runs, my overall average on the computer is 20.8, on the motorway runs at 70/80 mph average 25 mpg, on long country runs around the same, in town 16/18 mpg, I drive carefully always being mindful of mpg and only accelerate hard and overtake occasionally, i don't really see how anyone driving a 2001 Ls430 can get much better figures than this.

  • 4 weeks later...

I got 29mpg out of my ls430 today, that's local driving, I wish I could film it or something so you guys could believe me. I'm loving it. For you guys who diss shell v power fuel, you can diss it all you like, I'm getting good mileage out of it, so I couldn't care less.

This possibly must be one of the funniest threads I have read in a long time :hehe:

Even in my 'aerodynamic' SC430, I average 25mpg on a 30 mile motorway trip to work, albeit during fairly busy traffic on the final eight miles.

Wish I could get hold of that 'fairy dust', as not only do you get fantastic mpg, it must also be good for the 'green credentials', and even more important, exempt from the high fuel levy :tsktsk:

Anyway, it would be good to dream!
