 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi im new to the forum so hope this is ok posting here. We've had a 57 plate Lexus is220 se for just over 4 weeks ( just now out of warranty !) and travelling today we have the Vsc warning light appear on the display. I've also noticed a rattling noise under the hood, could this be related at all. Anyone have any Vsc advice they've gone through. Many thanks

Welcome to LOC. Not got any idea about your problem although I'm sure someone here might help. Which warranty is it just out of?

I recently bought this car from a used car dealer and he gave me a months warranty. I'm going to phone him in the morning and try it on but I won't hold my breath

Thanks for the reply

If he is a used car dealer then you are covered for most things under the Sale of Goods Act for 6 months from date of purchase

I've got the car back and he has had the light took off and he was told it was because the car had slid out but I can't remember this and what happens in the snow as its rear wheel drive and could easily slide out does this mean I have to have the light taken off every time at a cost of £85

Sounds like an excuse putting the blame on the driver, so what has actually been done, has the dealer simply reset the ECU and deleted the code or has something been replaced that caused it to come on in the first place.

Time will tell if the fault reappears.

No - He is telling you a load of horse dung. If you had spun the rear wheels the most that would happed is your traction control light would blink but this does not need resetting.

I don't want to worry you but he may be trying to mask a problem that is known about. Unfortunately it neccesitates a new ECU, two oxygen sensors and a Oil Change (I have no idea why the new oil is required but that is what is on the notice). The bad news is the total cost is circa £2,500.

There have been instances where owners have been told what their bill will be and then decided not to keep the car !

If he has just reset the light, I fear it will return again shortly !

I hope for your sake it is not the dreaded ECU problem.

Best of luck

The Ed

I think it might be wise to get the car checked by either a Lexus dealer or good independant. What your dealer is telling you just seems ridiculous. If the rear slides out it's not going to require a reset each time. Find out what is really wrong and then if he says "out of warranty" read earlier link to Sale of Goods Act and use it. If he won't do anything then contact trading standards as he will then be acting illegally.
