I have a question about lpg set up. My LS400 came with an lpg conversion which works well but I have always had problems with heating in the car, especially at low revs. The lpg links into the flow and return to / from the heater radiator and my mechanic believes that this is what is drawing heat away from the radiator. He thinks that if it was set up looping into either the flow or the return it would ensure proper circulation. Anyone who has lpg, is it normal to have it linked to to the flow and return or just one or the other?

Hope that makes sense!

It would make more sense to connect the evaporator in series with the heater matrix but it could be set up so the evaporator warms up quicker than the heater matrix so the fuel switchover occurs quicker.

I may be a good idea to seek the advise of an LPG specialist.

Cheers Steve. Yes, heating up the evaporator quicker could be the issue, but if it was in series with the heater matrix via the flow, rather than return it would be fine. I know the guy who did the original installation so will give him a ring tomorrow.

Really pleased with my new mechanic. I was filling up with lpg at a local garage, next to an LS430 owner. He asked me where I go for work on the car and I said I didn't have a regular mechanic. He recommended this guy because he said he knows the LS models inside out. Turns out the mechanic still has an LS400 and 430 himself and really does know them inside out.

Mel's Motors in Bracknell. Obvious google search.

Another reason why the evaporator can't be insequence with the heater matrix could be that the heater matrix regulator blocks the flow of coolant when in the off position and so would stop the flow to the evaporator. My lpg installer did not seemed surprised when I rang him today and said that if it is the evaporator drawing away from the heater he can install a restrictor on the evaporator to encourage better flow to heater matrix. In the meantime he suggested clamping of the flow to the evaporator and run on petrol to see if the heater works properly. A job for the weekend!
